So going by the reviews, you are either gonna really like it or really hate it which makes it a rental or Steam sale deal for me.

Dutch game magazine Power Unlimited gave the game a 96/100. Review’s not on the site yet, will probably be posted in the next few days.

A 6.9 from GameTrailers? Well, isn’t that something.
Seems to me that the less hype-friendly British publications are more cautious about showering praise on it. Having read a few of the reviews, I’d say RockPaperShotgun’s got the best write-up. Mainly because of this sentence: “Absolution had killed Blood Money and now it was trying to get away with wearing its clothes.”

Talk about a big variety of different ratings, holy crap. So far the Dutch reviews are very positive.
I played it at Gamescom and loved it, i’m a hardcore Hitman fan and i’m really looking forward to it. I will judge it until i play it myself next week.

We live in a very strange market if tonnes of 8′s and 9′s and a tiny handful of 7′s is seen as some sort of major polarisation of opinions.

I already got it
. Shopto.net sent it early and I recieved it yesterday
. If you guys want a challenge, this is the game for you. It’s hard, and I mean really hard.
I’m enjoying the hell out of it at the moment because its more like a puzzle game than a stealth game. Scouting out the levels is a must to get that perfect kill. Getting that perfect assassination is really really hard to do, but it’s a real treat when you do actually pull it off. You get a real sense of achievement when playing this game that alot of games don’t have anymore.
But be warned, it’s definitely the hardest Hitman game I’ve ever played.

Sounds really good indeed…i LOVE a challenge. But only if it’s fair. I spoke to someone who’s playing on expert and says he wants to play and using as little Instinct as possible. But some parts really clearly are designed for Instinct and basically you are almost forced to use it. The problem is, on Expert on Purist you barely get Instinct points and say that you want to access a location where you really need Instinct but you don’t want to use it, you need other ways to get past.
So say you find a cop uniform and put it on, cops apparently spot you from crazy distances and at those times the A.I. is crazy intelligent and he says alittle bit over the top intelligent. All else is awesome he says.

The problem seems to be that it’s a good game, but it’s not a good Hitman game. So you get mixed reviews, because the reviewers that actually played Blood Money and compare it to that (RPS, PCGamer) are rating it lower.

My friend has it and says that the game is much closer to Hitman 2 than to Blood Money and says that it makes it better. I always enjoyed Hitman 2 more than Blood Money so I can’t wait.

@26 I’m playing it on Hard. And that’s hard enough for me at the moment. You’re abilities become stronger as you complete challenges (e.g you become better at blending in when you complete the chameleon challenges etc) , so that might help make the game easier when you attempt harder difficulties. Don’t hold me to that though, because I don’t know for sure.

Okay. So after actually playing the game i’ve to agree with most reviewers complaining about the checkpoint system. It’s broken, from start to finish, absolutely stupid and broken.
One has to ask why? JUST WHY THE FUCK DID THEY DO THAT?!
It’s counter-productive. Just had an amazing run, did everything perfect, killed 2 targets without anyone knowing anything, had to kidnap the third target, guess what? I got caught dragging his body. Had to start from scratch because there were no checkpoints during the whole play.
Fan-fucking-tastic IoI. Absolutely stupid. And don’t even get me started on the enemy spawnpoints. Finished the upper floor in one level, activated the checkpoint, ran back up because i forgot something: The floor was full of enemies again.

THe series has always done that when you failed and went back to the checkpoint you start over. Thats why I enjoy this series. Its trial by fire. I have no issues with starting over its what Hitman series was always about like Bathesda and bugs

NO! IT DIDN’T. FOR FUCK’S SAKE PLAY THE PREVIOUS GAMES!
The series had always allowed you to save your game on normal difficulty whenever you wanted.
Now, you activate a checkpoint, fuck up, reload the checkpoint and for some retarded reason everything is at point one again. Every conversation, every script is back to 0. You have to watch every event unfold again. Yesterday, i was so mad because i used up a checkpoint even though i haven’t killed anyone yet, so naturally i decided to restart the level, but it restarted the WHOLE level, not the last part of the level.
Absolutely mind-boggling how this got past testing. It’s the biggest fuck-up in a videogame series i’ve ever seen. IoI must have been mental when they thought that was a good idea.
There’s simply no encouragement for experimentation anymore, you fuck up, reload watch everything happen again.

@39: Rent it, but for me it nearly broke the entire game. It’s simply not fun. Previous Hitman were all about trial and error, instead of trying to back down, the multiplied it with a simple element: checkpoints. It’s a horrible design decision. In the mission i mentioned earlier i was looking for a checkpoint to activate, but there was none.
The checkpoints sometimes even determine where you should kill your target, as they are closer to it.
When you fuck up, shooting your way through is possible but not really fun. For some reason you can’t activate Instinct when you’re aiming down your sight, which is even more horrible than it sounds. Even if you do, the mark and execute mechanic doesn’t really respond well in a firefight. It’s not like Splinter Cell Conviction where you can go in and out of a situation real quick. You fucked up? Reload. It’s going to hurt your ranking and your health and definitely your time, as hiding takes a huge amount of time.
Sometimes the game even spawns more enemies “Reinforcements arrive.” Oh great.
Hell, i even remember losing all my instinct after reloading a checkpoint. Is that a bug or a gameplay element i can’t tell.

I play on Purist mode so I don’t use any of the check points because I can’t along with no UI or instinct. So I find no issue with the check point system because again I prefer it that way and the Hitman series when you “saved” that save only worked within that level but once you leave the mission or the game. It deleted the save. You can skip cutscenes and dialogues, this isn’t Max Payne 3 where its impossible to skip that stuff.
I bought the game expecting exactly that so to thinking it was going to be anything else is rather silly. Play Assassins Creed 3 or Dishonored if you want a stealth game that holds your hand. This game isn’t that.
