LEGO Lord of the Rings: from big screen to plastic bricks

The LEGO series remains popular with gamers of all ages, mainly due to its delightful charm and humour. LEGO Lord of the Rings is no different. VG247's Sam Clay spoke to Traveller's Tales cinematic director Phil Grey, to talk about the task of adapting the movie dialogue for the game. See it in action below.

The rules of LEGO are simple according to the safety precautions: No setting fire, dousing in alcohol or 'piercing' of the bricks. However, for the chaps who are directing all the cut-scenes, they face a bigger challenge.

For those of you who have seen the Lord of the Rings films, you'll know straight away that they are heavy with dialogue, where LEGO games have previously trimmed back, using silent protagonist instead. LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes bucked that trend massively, but this LOTR adaptation pushed the chatter to new levels.

So, how do you adapt complex movie dialogue down into a game format? Well, switch arrows for chickens and booze for milkshakes of course. Confused? Grey explains all above.

LEGO Lord of the Rings releases on all current gen formats on November 23rd
