Spartacus Legends going free to play on console networks
Spartacus Legends, an arena combat tie in to the popular Starz series, will be free on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Ubisoft announced the title’s free-to-play status during its Digital Days event, as well as showing a new trailer and screens, both of which are viewable below.
Although player will be able to buy better equipment – choosing from “thousands” of combinations – gear will be graded by fame, meaning only the best players will have access to the best items. Presumably, ranked matches will be restricted to players in the same fame bracket, as Ubisoft notes that this system “ensures that competitive play stays fair”.
Spartucus Legends boasts extensive customisation for those who choose to debut their own fighter rather than step into the sandals of Spartacus or Crixus, and will feature offline versus mode in addition to online battles and global leaderboards. The early 2013 release joins a small number of other free-to-play offerings on both console networks.

its not free2play guys its a freemium, where they are gonna dime and cent you to death with silly upgrades. if your not gonna buy anything be prepared to be bashed by the 12 year old, that just used 400 dollars on the best items to get to the top in 5 min.

Every Free2Play game is a “dime and cent” type of thing. Some like Tribes less demonic than others but that’s it. Freemium or F2P are just crappy business models made to suck even more money from consumers.
EDIT: All of that said, I still respect artists and developers of most F2P titles because I KNOW for a fact that most of them are forced to go this way because of publisher / business partner / studio head pressure and other unfortunate reasons.
