ArmA II mod Day Z hits 500,000 players

Bodies continue to swarm to Day Z like the unstoppable undead horde, pushing the number of players of the ArmA II mod to 503,000 players and counting.

In a Tweet earlier today, the Day Z development team announced that the ArmA II mod has reached the 500,000 player milestone:

“Congratulations everyone, with your support through tough times, mistakes, troubles, and technical problems, we now have over 500k users!”

The current average life expectancy of the 503,000 Day Z inhabitants is a mere 35 minutes, according to the mod’s website.

At Rezzed last week, VG247′s video maestro, Sam Clay, caught up with Day Z creator Dean “Rocket” Hall to discuss what’s next for the zombie mod; check out the video interview through here.

I actually like the zombies more than the other players. >.>

And yeah, averages are a funny thing. It is somewhat hard to survive in the beginning with no map, no compass no… well, no anything. So lots of people die in their first few minutes. But as you get the hang of it, as always, it gets easier.

My problem is really with the engine. You can pretty much tell that it was never designed to accomodate pistols, and since you spend at least some time with those in Day Z, you also start off with one of the wonkiest views of the game.

But then the same goes for almost everything else in Day Z. It was never meant to accomodate fast zombies or melee attacks either, and I don’t think they work very well.

No wonder people stick to killing eachother :P

I just wish they’d make it more like Zomboid.
