Nuketown to return as limited edition offering in Black Ops II

The popular Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer map Nuketown will be returning in this year’s Black Ops II with a futuristic appearance, as a limited edition inclusion.

Based on information obtained, apparently on display at Irish retailer Xtravision, the map has been “re-imagined for the future” and will be called Nuketown 2025 this time around. The map is described as “the biggest incentive in Call of Duty history” and is listed as part of a “limited edition pack”.

Pre-order it now.

Thanks, IGN.

“Pay more for our new game, get rehashed content from the last one!”

Seriously? Fuck off.

@3 Never said that was much better.

But at least that was four maps, not one.

@4 Nah, I agree. Even as an avid CoD player, I never found the DLC to be worth jack. The new/old maps actually made MW2 a lot less fun than it was.

But that’s the sport of the industry right now. Sell as little as possible for as much as possible. ’tis the season to rip people off.

Where the hell is the problem with bringing back 1 of the best maps in Black Ops? Is it because it’s used to promote the Limited Edition which will probably cost a few bucks more than the normal one? It’s not like anyone is forced to buy it.

^ Ignore him, Jerichool.

1. Before reading this article, he almost certainly didn’t even know what Nuketown was, let alone why people would want to play it.

2. He’s so completely useless at FPSs, that he’d get absolutely slaughtered if he ever ended up playing on that map.

3. He’s a troll.

@6 Of course not. Doesn’t make it any less lazy.

@7 1) I’ve played it. I know it. It’s a small, uninspired clusterfuck of a map with a bunch of uninspired Easter Eggs.

2) Ad hominem is ad hominem.

1. You played it?

Yeah, when?

Today, probably… So you could write “I’ve played it”.

Or is it the case that the guy who “didn’t touch CoD after playing the No Russian level” is just plain lying…?

2. Whatever you say on the subject of CoD is completely meaningless, since you clearly have emotional issues related to the game. In that it’s popularity causes you large levels of insecurity, due to it’s necessary implication that you are unable to understand the essence of a good game.

This clearly creates an overwhelming and uncontrollable desire in you to troll as many CoD articles as possible, in a futile attempt at self deception, to make yourself feel a little bit better.

In reality, all you’re doing is spitting into the wind.

Have a nice time playing Black Ops 2.

How is it lazy when they give the fans what they want? Nuketown is just an additional map. I’m pretty sure Treyarch will include more than enough new innovations to fresh up the franchise. And who are you or anyone else to judge their work/”lazyness”. No one here exactly knows what they do and how much time and effort they put into it. If you won’t like the outcome (BO2) then just stay away from it. It’s not difficult.

It is for someone with emotional issues.

You’re doing this all wrong, anyway, Jerichool.

You can’t use logic and reason with this guy. He’ll only end up calling you all manner of expletives, once he starts to get a whiff of his own ignorance.

@9 Back when the game original came out.

@10 A consumer, just like everyone else. And as a consumer, it’s entirely my place to judge the quality of the media I’m offered.

“No one here exactly knows what they do and how much time and effort they put into it.”

Odd remark. Each developer works on the next Call of Duty game on a roughly two year development cycle. By the time the current title is out, the next one is already about a year in development.

“If you won’t like the outcome (BO2) then just stay away from it. It’s not difficult.”

Not really understanding this remark. I won’t be able to make a call on the “outcome” of the game until its actually released.

I wouldnt mind so much if they used maps like tracks for Rock band where you can export them to the latest game. I might actually buy them that way cuz i know id get more use out of them but as a casual player no point when a new game comes out every yr.

@12:

I highly doubt that, but…

Even if it’s true, that only serves to prove your hipocrisy, even more so. Continually slagging off a game, claimimg not to play it, claiming it’s the exact same game over and over again, then proceeding to play it’s sequel.

No that would be alarmingly hypocritical.

Right now MS are trying to secure exclusive rights, so that ps3 users have to wait 30 days after launch for this map.

@14 I honestly couldn’t give a flying toss one way or the other if you don’t believe me. I have better things to do than lie, on the Internet of all places.

“Even if it’s true, that only serves to prove your hipocrisy, even more so. Continually slagging off a game, claimimg not to play it, claiming it’s the exact same game over and over again, then proceeding to play it’s sequel.”

1) I’ve never claims to not play Call of Duty. I’ve played them all.

2) A person can’t judge the final quality of a product without actually playing it. We can make assumptions, but that’s all.

3) Your entire argument is a logical fallacy, mainly on the grounds that I’ve enjoyed numerous CoD games in the past. There is plenty of chance that this could be the best title in the series to date, for all we know. A game has plenty of potential to expand on an already solid formula, as long as it isn’t afraid to grow in the process.

For all we know, this could be that Call of Duty.

There’s no hypocrisy in my statement beyond that which you are so frivolously attempting to cling at, through some exceptionally circumstantial logic.

Nuketown is a horrible map. It does not require any skill at all.

It’s just a clusterfuck or a place for EXP farming. That’s it. The only reason why it was popular is because of easter egg.

P.S. Not to mention that Call Of duty games have horrible loading times, with map such as this that provides 2-4 minutes of gameplay is atrocious.

Activision is so generous.

LIES, LIES, LIES!!!

2. All you ever do is slag CoD off and troll any article or forum thread related to it. I think it’s obvious to any impartial observer with a brain that you’ve already made you’re mind up about the franchise.

3. I don’t care if you enjoyed CoD2, CoD4, The Big Red One, or anything else. You’ve been trolling CoD since MW2.

Since MW2, through Black Ops, MW3, and now leading up to Black Ops 2.

Any sane person would have realised that the developers have absolutely ZERO intention of changing the game to your liking by now.

4. So now you’re a proven hypocrite, and a liar!

G1GAHURTZ

@17:

Whether you need skill or not to play on the map is irrelevant. The fact is, it’s probably the most popular map from Black Ops.

Is it because of easy XP? Of course!

And this is a bonus map for an LE so that people who choose to buy it can probably use it to increase their rank quicker than those who don’t.

It’s much more of an incentive to get the LE than a different cammo for a gun, or a “founder status” graphic in the lobby.

I know right! They’re almost as bad as Nintendo with Mario. Almost.

#21

Erthazus
28/06/12, 3:43 pm

@19, there is nothing more generous in that LE than a cammo for a gun because that map is probably going to be included in some 15 bucks DLC and if you are a hardcore Call Of Duty player you will still get that map pack no matter what.

#22

G1GAHURTZ
28/06/12, 4:00 pm

@21:

I didn’t say anything about generosity.

I simply said that people would be more interested in getting a map than a gun cammo, because they can probably use the map to get XP quicker than those who don’t. Thus helping them to prestige quicker.

We don’t know for certain if the map will be available to those without the LE at a later stage, but what we do know is that Elite members get all DLC, anyway. Which makes it highly doubtful that the map will be made available to all, or there would be no reason to get the LE if you’re already an Elite member.

I wish they would hold off the yearly releases and take time to really improve what is for me at the moment anyway, a very boring and unsatised experience in single player and multiplayer. Would like to see them hold off a couple of years and take time in making a new title for the next systems with a lot of improvements.

Call of Duty’s development cycle is 24 months, pretty much the industry standard (excluding R*, Blizzard, Valve, Nintendo).

Looks like the next CoD after Black Ops 2 will be next gen, so expect a lot of changes.

On a side(ish) note:

I wonder how many VG247 members have ever complained about CS:GO, or the fact that it still has Dust, a 12 year old map…

Probably a big fat zero.

#28

@27, CS:Go is great and don’t compare legendary CS map that is famous for cybersport gaming (and famous for being the easiest map for new players) with small clusterfuckness for farming.

There is a difference.

“Looks like the next CoD after Black Ops 2 will be next gen, so expect a lot of changes.”

Link? I doubt they will be rolling out with a new engine or game mechanics especially within a year. Not only that putting a game on a console with a very small install base unless they put it on all current system plus what ever system releases next November if that is the case then yeah don’t expect anything changing.

#31

Erthazus

@29,
I will be blown away if they are going to change the engine. They never changed it since the first Call Of Duty.

with every release they just updated it with few belts and whistles and called it a day.

and i’m not really sure that they Can change it because the basic shooting mechanics from “Quake 3 arena” which were created in Id software requires a talent in which both IW and Treyarch lack in engineering and design.

#32

Phoenixblight
28/06/12, 5:59 pm

@31

As will I especially since it takes at least 3 years to develop an engine unless they are using a known engine like Unreal 3 even then it takes time to get use to using that engine and modifying it to do what you want which can take 2-3 years which would be against Activision’s business model.

Don’t forget that each team takes 2 years per CoD. Not only that, but you’re almost guaranteed that MS and possibly Sony approached them to start working on something since at least 2011. (xbox720 doc was from 2010)

#34

Phoenixblight
28/06/12, 6:04 pm

@33

I stand by my comment they may be working on a next gen game but that doesn’t mean anything other than that it will be the same engine and mechanics only on a newer system. 2 years is not enough to develop a game while fudging with a new engine. Not unles they are starting to make COD for next gen but it won’t release for next for awhile plus as I said selling on a small install base would be moronic. Every developer can tell you that.

#35

G1GAHURTZ
28/06/12, 6:05 pm

@28:

I’m sure that loads of people enjoy Dust.

My point is that it’s 12 years old. People have been playing it for 12 years, and it’s due to be re-released in CS:GO.

Still, nobody complains.

A version of CoD has a map, which is less than 2 years old, and silly trolls are all like: ‘THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!! I’VE PLAYED THIS MAP ONCE BEFORE!!!’

Why the double standards…?

#36

G1GAHURTZ
28/06/12, 6:16 pm

@34:

Well, tbh, I always thought that the next gen would be the post IW (the original IW) CoD’s make or break time.

Obviously, CoD fans have proven that they are happy to play new versions of the same basic formula. The difficulty comes when every other developer around you is moving forward with a next gen engine and next gen features, but your entire business model is set up to re-skin and refresh last years version of a franchise.

I say that I expect something different, and I do. I basically expect a similar transition between gens that Halo went through from the xbox to the 360.

Pretty much the same mechanics and gameplay, with updated visuals, and a few extra “belts and whistles” (lol!) added on.

I’m personally expecting Respawn to step in here and show Acti what they lost.

They almost certainly have been working on a next gen engine for a few good years now, and I’m sure that they don’t need need any extra incentive to sink CoD into the ground other than what happened between them and Acti.

On top of that, I’m sure that EA will have given them the largest R&D budget they’ve ever seen.

I can just speak for myself but the reason I like Nuketown is because I don’t have to run far to face an enemy. It’s the fast action I love about these kind of maps.
