“Rolling start!”

Sega’s posted a video as part of a giveaway for a new game it’s announcing soon, suggesting an announcement of a digital release of Daytona USA is not far off.

While  clue was provided in help people solve what the title was – with winners getting codes for the game on PSN – the audio itself was the infamous “Rolling Start” line in Daytona. That gave the game away rather quickly.

Daytona USA was recently rated by Australia’s ratings board for a release on Xbox Live Arcade.

The video’s below. Look at the adorable bunny. The original Daytona USA was released in arcades in 1993, and was designed by Toshihiro Nagoshi. That Toshihiro Nagoshi.

I’ve been waiting for something like that on XBLA for ages. Sega has such a rich arcade catalogue that would be perfect for the service.
Hopefully they will include more tracks than only the 3 from the original arcade release. And that it will look more like Daytona USA 2, or the Dreamcast version. Or better yet: a racing compilation including Daytona, Sega Rally, Scud Race, etc.
And it probably won’t be called “Daytona USA”.
