Rock Band 3 Fender Squier Stratocaster now on pre-order

Rock Band 3′s ultimate accessory, the Fender Squier Stratocaster, is now available for pre-order in the US.

A really truly actual guitar you can use for things other than games, the Squier Stratocaster retails for USD $279.99, and is currently exclusive to BestBuy.

You’ll also need to pick up a Mad Catz MIDI PRO-Adapter for a further USD $39.99 – the guitar itself is compatible with PlayStation, Wii and Xbox 360, but you’ll need the right adapter for your chosen platform.

The Squier Stratocaster is used with Rock Band 3′s PRO mode, allowing eager shredders to use real frets and strings to teach themselves to play guitar. It features an Agathis wood body and maple neck, making it one of the most solid and weighty guitar controllers available.

Scheduled for release in March, BestBuy are forecasting a shipping date in early April.

Thanks, Shack.

Just what slagging RB3 sales need – unholy expensive instruments! Good luck with that.

Actually with this they’re expanding into a new market – software based guitar tuition.

If it actually works well then to the aspiring guitar player it might be an attractive prospect.

I’d love to give this a shot, but there’s no chance in hell I’d buy this when I have 2 superior guitars already.

Anyone know how the tech works? I can’t help but feel Line 6 would have been better partners than Fender.

They should have made it possible to use any guitar with a midi connector, missed a trick really too expensive for the casual player

Yeah, a cheap acoustic and Play in a Day will always be cheaper.

@3, the pro guitar has special sensors in the frets that detect finger position, it’s really the only way it could work without massive latency and positioning errors.

They actually started taking pre-orders a few weeks ago… I placed mine on December 16th, and they were already saying April then! Maybe they’re only going to have a small, small amount ready for March 1st to see what sort of interest there is, then will take another month to make as many as they need.
