First Kinect TV ads revealed – watch them here

Microsoft’s revealed the first three ads for its Kinect motion controller.
The ads concentrate on one launch game each, with the first focusing on Kinect Sports, while the other two show Joyride and Kinectimals.
You can check out all three videos below.
Sky and Microsoft recently announced full Kinect integration with the Sky Player on Xbox 360.
Kinect is released this November.
Thanks, PSG.

To ‘critique’ your ‘reviews’ in the style of said reviews…
I liked the Second review better because it was less shit than the first review. My 4 year old gives better, more coherant reviews of the dump he’s just had, some times longer than yours too!
My advice is to do us all a favour and avoid the hyperlink button when browsing this site.

@12 Personally I take criticism well, I have no problem with your opinion on my reviews and in due course I will attempt to improve them although the main problem was that the beta’s were brief and I was trying to give more of an informative approach to the review

@LePlatypus
In Joyride, can you use a ‘fake steering wheel’ (like a plate or something) rather then just pretending you’re holding an invisible one?

These ads wonderfully highlight many reasons why a Kinect is never setting foot anywhere near my xbox. Short of being told it doesn’t work for gingers, I couldn’t possibly feel more alienated.

@15 I tried that day one; I picked up the Mario Kart Wii wheel tried using that, the Kinect sensor somehow lost tracking of my hand and got me in a worse position than if I had used my hands.

FUCKING CREEPY KIDS STROKING AIR!!!
I enjoy the light and airy feel to them, but it does make Kinect look like a cheap ‘plug-in to tv’ game and are far too Wii-like.

Well, reviews in game blog comments sections tend toward short, adolescent bursts of vituperous profanity, so I would be willing to grant MS the benefit of presuming Kinect is just Not For Us. Which we already know.
The only problem is, this marketing makes it looks like it’s Not For Them, either. In fact, all the glimpses – ads and otherwise – of the Kinect make it look like it’s a naked attempt to recreate the Wii sensation. You know, the fad that swept the morning television circuit. Four years ago.
Just a guess, but I don’t think many of the dads, grandmothers, and tweener girls are going to ditch their Wiis to shell out another $150 to do the same thing (as far as they can tell). That’s for those casuals who didn’t last closet their Wiis before spring semester ’08.
At least Sony has a funnier pitchman, even if none of the customers they’re targeting have any idea why it’s funny to reference buttons.

They truly are desperate….how could they ever think this was gonna succeed?
Swinging a Wii-remote around and looking like a jackass…that I can tolerate for an hour…
But just standing and waving yer arms and looking like a total jackass, I couldn’t stand that shit for more than a minute.
I’m not even sure I’m gonna try Move, this is definetly not what I’m gonna try at least.

@12 – in a similar vein of “constructive criticism” I think you sound like a throughtly detestable and ignorant cunt.
If I saw anyone speaking to someone like that in person quite frankly i’d beat the living shit out of you.
My advice is to do us all a favour and avoid the comment button when browsing this site.
Now fuck off

I played a Wii for any real ammount of time for the first time this weekend. That was scary fun.
I had this idea of the games not being challenging or rewarding, but it was completely hilarious. Especially with the whole family around to cheer you on. Or indeed tell you how much you suck.

I love how in half of these ads kinect wouldn’t work due to the amount of people in the background…

Is that the final voice over? Sounds like they grabbed a bloke off the street! I have made my mind up. Kinect is the new fad that has fail written all over it.

I know the ‘cool’ thing to say is that these are shit and Kinect is full of fail, but…
… these ads would completely sell it to my kids. I can just tell. The first one with the sports stuff – that’s my son sold (specifically the ball kick right at the end). The last one with the Kinectimals – that’s my daughter sold (like… completely). Add a Dance Central one and you can probably count the missus in as well (and my daughter in twice).
I can only hope they never see them.

I broke down and bought a move wand this weekend. We had the cam from eye of judgement, so it was just one controler. No games, we dl’d demos.
It not only works better then the Wii(miles better), but it was fun to play. I have to say I am impressed with Move, and I didn’t think i would be.
I have no intrest in Kinects at all. Some of it is price point. Move ran me 50usd to get started. Kinects is 150usd. The lack of buttons bothers me greatly. And the games they are showing don’t seem any good.
Thus far, and it is early, its Move ftw.
IMO.

Ok, let’s face it. If you didn’t know what kinect was you would be baffled by those adverts. Especially the kids writhing on the floor. That shit is just plain weird.

It’s a teaser advert g00nerz. They’re not uncommon.
(Expect the next ones to go into far more detail)

And yeah, these ads are pretty terrible. It’ll probably sell like hot cakes regardless.

Teaser or not, I’m guessing the main point of any advertising is to show off your product (and not people doing weird shit and looking stupid). Regardless, it’ll probably sell by the bucketload to the casuals.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Microsoft bringing out some kind of controller to go with it at some point (À la Move). I think the games are going to be very limited without some kind of interactivity through buttons or an analog stick. Don’t piss off the hardcore, that is the golden rule of gaming (which incidentally might come back to haunt Nintendo next gen…)

The key point I am noticing is a lack of price. MS though have been running and hiding from that bad boy though since the beginning.

That third one, about when you meet a friend for the first time, and all the people (I’ll ignore that they are kids) lying down on their backs with their legs apart? If this is what MS are trying to achieve, then I approve.

Might not be a particular fan of Move or motion controls (and certainly no fanboy of any means), but the Move looks lightyears better than this.

hey “itsucks” the dildo move might come in handy one day when ur gf complains of ur small penis. on a side note, kinect will fail! just as people want to be able to see and hold on to their blu rays, rather than stream, the same can be said for gaming and controllers. People will want to have something pysical in their hands , with buttons! to feel justified with their purchase. i bet it wont sell more than 250,000
