Pre-order contents for Splinter Cell: Conviction revealed

Gamestop’s revealed the content you get with Splinter Cell: Conviction for parting with cash before its release next month.
Pre-order the game from the retailer and you get the suppressed SPAS-12 shotgun.
Downloaders aren’t in the dark, neither. If you pre-ordered from Direct2Drive, you get the original Splinter Cell on PC for free.
If you place a pre-order for the Digital Deluxe Edition, you get three extra in-game weapons, a gameplay mode known as Infiltration and shadow armour.
Watch the GameStop video below. Splinter Cell: Conviction will released on Xbox 360 on April 16 in the UK, with the PC version on April 29. The game went Gold earlier this week.

Ironic as the original splinter cell doesnt work properly on newer pcs, as it doesnt support modern resolutions, windows 7, etc. Even in xp compatability mode.
I can never understand what sort of person believes these kinds of pre-order bonuses make it worthwhile ordering. A more worthwhile pre-order bonus would be to remove the DRM etc, as you would obviously be a loyal customer and pay for the game, and shouldnt have restrictions on your gaming experience.

Droid: you can get it to work fine, but you have to do a lot of work and tinkering. A real shame that they haven’t released a complementary patch for newer computers. Pandora tomorrow on the other hand… whole other story unfortunately.
As for your second point, DRM isn’t there to inconvenience you (although it can do that), its to stop casual pirating and from customers “lending” their copy to other people on the internet. At least now groups have to crack it and pirates to download cracked files, something you do not have to do (unless you really want to).

You can get this pre-order edition with the exclusive shotgun, etc from Amazon.co.uk http://www.amazon.co.uk/Splinter-Cell-Conviction-Limited-Xbox/dp/B003CT4UPC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1269606212&sr=8-3

You shouldnt have to hack a game to get it to work once you have bought it. It does inconvienience as you can’t play it at all if your connection goes off, or their servers are offline etc. As all drm games are pirated a lot anyway it just stops the real paying customers from having a decent gaming experience.

Droid: Of course you shouldn’t have to do that, but you have to do that with pretty much any old game (that Double Agent is such a pissy pile of shit is another thing though, its not that old).
And yes it inconvenience, but it generally inconvenience pirates MORE, which is what they feel matters. What I feel they should do is having a less harsh DRM scheme and then rain patches on the users (and have an automatic update system) so the pirates have to release new cracks all the time. Eventually people will be so bored of updating and cracking that they just buy the game.
