Jamie Foxx to star in Kane & Lynch movie adaptation

jamiefoxx

Jamie Foxx has signed on to play Lynch in the movie adaptation of Kane & Lynch.

Foxx will star alongside Bruce Willis, previously confirmed as Kane, according to the film’s writer Kyle Ward.

“Done deal… Jamie Foxx is in,” Ward tweeted.

Ward is also currently at work penning the scripts for Uncharted and the second Hitman film.

IO Interactive announced yesterday that the sequel to its 2007 game, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, would see a release on August 24 and August 27 in North American and Europe, respectively.

So… lets get a washed up actor who could never act to begin with, and a guy who isn’t even the same skin colour as the character he’s meant to be playing, to play the lead roles?

This is dead before its even started.

Apt, given that his name sounds like he’s a character from a cheap action game. :-D

Who says he’s going to play the lead role?

How utterly bizarre.

Errrr… Are you sure he’s gonna play Lynch? Like, sure, sure? I mean.. His forehead looks all wrong for that part.

Also, given the fact that Jamie Foxx, on top of indulging in his idiosyncratic action movies, is also doing some pretty challenging parts (Collateral, Ray, The Soloist) and winning awards for them, I’m thinking “washed up” is a little much.

It’s not easy to see black men be that succesful though, I agree. He should get his ass back in the plantation and sow some cotton, am I right?

(ATT: Sarcasm)

Jamie Foxx was awesome in Miami Vice and Collateral.

But this doesn’t make a lick of sense.

p.s. Best thing Mr Foxx has been in is Collateral, now that is a good film with a shockingly a brilliant performance by Mr Cruise.

@8 Agreed. It might be his best one yet. Magnolia would come in at number two for me. Foxx did a great job too though, especially when you consider his actual personality.

“I’m thinking “washed up” is a little much.”

The “washed up” remark was in reference to Bruce Willis.

“Who says he’s going to play the lead role?”

The article, apparently.

@10 I missed that, let’s change it:

“…given the fact that Jamie Foxx, on top of indulging in his idiosyncratic action movies, is also doing some pretty challenging parts (Collateral, Ray, The Soloist) and winning awards for them, I’m thinking “guy who can’t act” is a little much”

Who ever cast this film is seriously colour blind.

I’m pretty sure this’ll make up for those 330 years where Othello was played exclusively by white dudes

Collateral was the shit. Love that movie.

And I hate to echo the obvious hear, but… dude’s black.

Also, this movie is being written by the guy who’s also penning ‘Hitman 2′, and directed by a first-timer whose previous credits as 2nd unit director include such gems as Surrogates, Hancock, Jumper, X-Men 3, Tomb Raider and Terminator 3.

Eurrgghhhh. Do not want.

@1 Skin colour last I heard, is not a problem when an actor is *well capable* of portraying the character without losing the essence of that character.

Let me give you a perfect example. Do you know the character “Red” Redding on Shawshank Redemption? He is an Irishman and guess who played his character in the movie? A black who goes by the name Morgan Freeman. And Shawshank was now one of the best movies ever made.

So there, you saying that a decision for an actor is *wrong* because of his skin colour is just you being racist.

I’m not saying that Mr. Foxx is a good choice either, ‘cos I didn’t even played the game yet.

Fine, the guy can act, but this is just insane (in a bad sense). Kevin Gage, the other actor that was rumored to play Lynch fit the part PERFECTLY! Just look him up and tell me he doesn’t look like Lynch! You can see him in Heat, I think his name in that movie was Waingro or something. Just because someone can act, does not mean he is right for the part…

@13 Hahaha!

@15 Completely right. Avatar was all blue people with lionfaces, I’ve never seen one of those on the street, but apart from that, Foxx’s face really isn’t that far off from Lynch.

Although it certainly isn’t the most obvious choice, and being a videogame movie, well, I doubt it’s gonna be a classic.

@15

Racist? Are you kidding?

The difference here is that not many people were familiar with The Shawshank Redemption before it was made into a film. With K&L, the ONLY people who are going to be familiar with it are gamers, and we already have a very strong idea of what the characters are supposed to be like.

Also, if the film does well, will future games change Lynch’s character and make him look like Jamie Foxx? So he’ll be younger, cleaner cut, less experienced and yes, black? It was wierd enough when they got the relatively young Timothy Olyphant to play the much older, Agent 47.

It’s not about racism, it’s about continuity.

@ 15

Morgan Freeman is a respect and extremely talented actor. Jamie Foxx is a douchebag that can sometimes act well. And yes, I remember his Oscar, but still doesn’t mean he’s right for the role.

I’m a racist and i quite like the idea of Foxx playing Lynch

Whats that about?

Well if they can get past having different skin colours, why dont they go the whole hog and do it with puppets. Bert & Ernie are Kane and Lynch, Big Bird & Barney the Dinosaur are Kane & Lynch. The deaf one from Sesame Street and the little retarded boy with the limp who lives not far from me are Kane & Lynch.

It writes itself.

I think there is no difference in that actually, I’m pretty sure ‘not many people(gamers included) are familiar with K&L being made to a movie’ either. And this game is not even that popular. It’s the same between books and games. You will have a strong idea of how the character looks like. And if the movie-makers take liberties with it and chose an actor that doesn’t look like it. It doesn’t MATTER as long as the character is true to itself.

Fuck people I’m not saying he’s right for the role. its even in my original post! I’m just saying that skin colour is not that big of a deal , that all of you seem to care about! Should we even be arguing about this?! This movie is gonna be shit anyway. :)

Timothy Olyphant isnt young. He was 40years old when Hitman was released. is Agent 47 supposed to be 50 or 60? I really dont know cuz i didnt play anything after part 1.

You know, now that I think about it, if they made another Shaft movie, but with a white actor THEN it would be an outrage. But since now it’s the other way around, it’s ok right? Stop trying to pretend this choice is ok! If this debate gets out to the national media, you’ll see black people playing their little race card about how come they can’t act in roles like these bla bla bla. Really, sometimes I think casting people make choices like this just out of pity so that the world doesn’t think Hollywood or whatever aren’t racists.

“If they made another Shaft movie, but with a white actor THEN it would be an outrage.”

Thats because ‘Is white’ isnt a character trait. ‘Is black’ on the other hand, is. Apparently.

Considering the amount of liberty taken in previous adaptations i cant say i’m surprised by this.

I think i need to take a dump. This is by far the most retarded cast choice ever made.

Bruce Willis was good, he fits and would make a great job, but freaking Foxx as Lynch? What the hell went wrong here.

This greatly disappoints me, or half does. When I first saw Kane and Lynch, I thought that yes, I want to see Bruce Willis in a movie adaptation. However, I think John Malkovitch is a hell of a lot more well suited to play the other role, based on acting ability and looks. Hell, Mickey Rourke is more suited for the role than Shanene! Hollywood fails again, just like they always fucking do.
