E3 2009 – Microsoft press conference liveblog!

Monday, 1 June 2009 16:37 GMT By Patrick Garratt

Update – We’re now live!

This is it! Microsoft will take to the stage at the USC Campus’ Galen Center at 10.30am PST this morning to deliver its E3 2009 keynote, and anticipation is running white hot.

Nathan’s on his way there now, so you’ll be able to read the whole thing as it happens, right here on VG247.

Forza 3, motion-sensing, a new Crackdown, Alan Wake, Halo ODST and many more are being heavily tipped for the event, as is some kind of exclusivity on Modern Warfare 2. You cannot miss this.

If you’re in the UK, it starts at 6.25pm BST, and that’s 7.25pm CET if you’re in mainland Europe.

The CoverItLive window’s through the link. We’ll put it live once Nathan’s up and running.

For details of sites streaming video live from the conference, hit this.

Don’t forget that EA’s conference is to follow at 2.00pm PST (that’s 10.00pm BST, 11.00pm CET), followed by Ubisoft at 5.00pm PST (that’s 1.00am BST and 2.00am CET). We’ll be liveblogging both.

  143. Goliath

    @ Pyrix

I’m thinking the same thing. I don’t believe the demo. It’s all pre scripted. All in all, I was really impressed with what Microsoft showed. Man, does ODST look slick or what?!

    #143 6 years ago
  144. Blerk

That’s it? Not nearly as much as I was hoping for. Quite slim on the games front, even.

    #144 6 years ago
  145. Tiger Walts

You know what, I reckon Natal will re-launch the adventure game genre. No more dialogue trees, just talk to the NPCs. Explore and interact directly with the game world, using your arms or your legs.

    Halo:ODST, Forsa 3, Splinter Cell:Conviction, L4D 2, CoD:MW2

The exclusives list is pretty decent though most are abit far off from now.

    #147 6 years ago
  148. Goliath

    @ Blerk

Halo ODST, Left 4 Dead 2, Splinter Cell COnviction, Forza 3 this fall along with Modern Warfare 2. Crackdown 2, Alan Wake, FFXIII, MGS Rising next year along with whatever’s announced next E3. How is the slim?! God you guys are greedy.

    #148 6 years ago
  149. DrDamn

Much more impressed with the camera thing than the more mainstream stuff they tried last year. Other exclusives line up is very good if a little predictable and safe.

    #149 6 years ago
  150. Blerk

But we already knew about half of that stuff, Goliath. I was kind of hoping they’d announce more brand new stuff.

    #150 6 years ago
  151. crackdude

    This was really really good.

    #151 6 years ago
  152. Goliath

    @ DrDamn

Yeah, I suppose but I was blown away by Alan Wake and Halo ODST. ODST looks so slick I really want to see what the next Halo looks like. Splinter Cell looks like it’s going to be a stunner this fall and Forza 3′s real time damage just earned it a step in GT5 until I see GT5 next year.

    #152 6 years ago
  153. Psychotext

I’m really looking forward to Splinter Cell and Forza 3 there. The Forza video editing thing was amazing, and Sam Fisher is an utter psychopath.

But there was so much on show (generally)… I’m actually really glad that I wasn’t particularly excited before the show because it blew me away on the whole.

Actually, one of the most interesting things is what wasn’t there – where was Mass Effect 2? Looks like good news for PS3 owners.

    #156 6 years ago
  157. Goliath

    @ Psychotext

I agree. I think I had lukewarm expectations. I had heard the rumors but I was really impressed by the games. Halo ODST really impressed me. Looks like more than an expansion and probably a first look at a refined Halo engine. Forza 3 was just amazing and Splinter Cell Conviction looked truly impressive. I think it’s going to be a great Q3/Q4. Mass Effect 2 in January, FFXIII, and Alan Wake in the Spring. A huge launch for a new Halo next E3 and Crackdown 2 along with whatever is is being kept close to the chest.

    #157 6 years ago
  158. Goliath

    @ Blerk

EA’s conference is today. They’ll have Mass Effect 2.

    #158 6 years ago
  159. Blerk

Well, quite. But if it was still a 360 exclusive, you’d think Microsoft would’ve wanted to mention it as well, no?

    #159 6 years ago
  160. Goliath

Good point. The did save a space for “Games Exclusive to the Xbox 360″.

    #160 6 years ago
  161. Psychotext

@Blerk: Actually, I’d say you’re right. ME2 not being at the MS conference probably is good news for PS3 owners.

    #161 6 years ago
  162. Goliath

To be honest, you’d want the first. It just doesn’t make sense to “jump in”. I’d want the first. I would have thought we would have seen a PS3 port by now. They didn’t even announce the DLC which Bioware had touted so that seems odd.

    #162 6 years ago
  163. Blerk

There’s quite a few things I’m pleased about, but I think my biggest disappointment is probably Peter’s stuff. I was really hoping for a proper Lionhead game rather than just a tech demo. :-(

    #163 6 years ago
  164. daytripper

i thought there would be more unannounced games to be honest, ok we had crackdown 2, halo reach, mgs and left 4 dead 2 but really, these have been reported for a while in the rumour mill. my own fault for getting so hyped but i felt a bit let down and hoping there would be a few big exclusive hitters for microsoft, after all mgs will be on PS3 aswell. i wouldnt be that worried if i was sony or nintendo just yet.

  166. Johnny Cullen

    “Yeah, there’s not much really.

    But I liked Kojima’s “!” sound xD”

When Mattrick asked what was the one game everyone wanted to see on Xbox 360 (it was an obvious answer), I was like he cant be referring to what I think he’s referring to.

And when I heard the ! sound (GameSpot froze on that exact moment), I freaked out.

And I mean freaked fucking out.

    #166 6 years ago
  167. fearmonkey

Lots of good stuff this year from MS.
I was kind of disapointed that there wasnt anything mentioned game related regarding the new Zune HD.
No big reason to buy one if you already have a good portable multimedia player.
The new camera stuff sounds fantastic, but it remains to be seen if this would be utilized in more than a few games.
Without alot of games supporting it, it’s not that enticing to me. Plus, it has alot of hype to live up to thanks to Peters demo.

I wish MS would have kept the Fasa Mechwarrior and Crimson skies games around, the really dropped the ball on that.

There was no news regarding APB, that was an expected title, and it wasnt mentioned.

    #167 6 years ago
  168. Mike

I don’t know what some people want, Project Natal and the new games that were shown, Milo, L4D2, Crackdown 2, Halo Reach/ODST, SC: Conviction and Metal Gear Solid Rising and you’re disappointed?

    #168 6 years ago
  169. jnms

@Mike – I think many people now-a-days live in some sort of ‘deadspace’. It’s like a big black void where all good and exciting stuff is converted into dull inane stuff.

I see that a lot of people seem to suffer from this.

    #169 6 years ago
  170. daytripper

@mike: the games that were shown were great although I expected a couple more, unannounced (not previously mentioned or rumoured) games, things to really shock. thats all.

    #170 6 years ago
  171. fearmonkey

Im with Daytripper on this one.
The announcements are cool, and really good, but nothing really surprised me. All of those announcements had been hinted at previously. Ther wasnt that “Final Fanstasy on 360 moment” this year.
All those rumors regarding APB, nothing was announced :(
I bet Sony has something up their sleeves. We know there is a new IP from rockstar in development for the SP3 only, lets hope it shows up and its a good one.
After last year, they need a shocker or big announcement.

    #171 6 years ago
  172. Len

Really impressed by MS and loads there I want to play.

Just need to cut out the clapping themselves all the time…wtf was that all about!?!?

Anyway, we need a serious look at Trico and god knows what else from Sony to combat that imo.

    Should be good…
