Japanese games magazine Famitsu has given Grand Theft Auto IV a score of 10,10,9,10 which means that three out four reviewers thought it damn near perfect. This rather surprisingly outscored Sony’s LittleBigPlanet, which recieved a more than formidable 10,10,9,9.

Full scores below. Thanks NeoGaf and Blerk.

  • Cid & Chocobo - 8,8,8,8
  • Vitamin Y - 6,6,6,7

  • Valkyrie Profile - 8,8,8,8
  • Avalon Code - 7,8,7,8

I still don’t get why GTA is so well received.

Someone has to start. :)

tbh, who cares?

Surely only Kotaku hype Famitsu stuff, because they like Japanese things?

Can you even buy the magazine over here?

Anyway they’ve already admitted that they change their scores based on the popularity of a game, so why take them seriously?

Oh is that what it was. I thought Famitsu changed review scores based on bribes.

Hey I’ve been a member since the beginning! Just tend to treat it like joystiq *spit*, i.e. browse, read, hardly ever post.

I may be bitter, but I feel that a game with a man frequently yelling about “tee-tees” is going to do better in Japan than just about everything else.

I’ve been exposed to too much Japan thanks to my roomie, so I know this to be truth. The visual novels speak volumes (no pun intended).

Hmm. What really needs to be checked is what Famitsu thought of Braid, of course.

And a reminder that the last 40/40 from them was the majestic Metal Gear Solid 4 :D

Oooh, how’s that for perspective?

I really don’t understand this hype for GTAIV, GTA San Andreas was a hell of a lot more fun I can tell you that much. GTAIV isn’t really deserving of another 10 in my books.
