DICE senior producer Patrick Liu has left the Battlefield 3 studio to join Rovio, the studio can confirm. This marks the second high profile departure from DICE this month.

“It’s a world of difference to work together at one location. The whole game is made at DICE in Stockholm. It’s great having the guys running around, talking to each other. Co-op, for example, is actually based on a lot of the philosophy behind multiplayer. Teamwork is never forced, but we have different gadgets and mechanics that help you work together. “We are trying to grow the franchise in different ways, always, and to do something new for us, whether it’s a feature like the destruction that was added in Bad Company or the single player that was also added in Bad Company. Since then, it’s grown and grown as a franchise. Single player has become a core pillar now, and we’re adding coop for the first time. We’ll see what happens with that; if people like it, if it’s fun, it will probably grow into a core pillar, as well,” producer Patrick Liu, speaking to Gamasutra on advancing the series’ core pillars.
Battlefield 3 releases at the end of the month for PS3, 360 and PC.

DICE producer Patrick Liu has confirmed that Battlefield 3 on Xbox 360 will have the ability to install a hi-res texture pack on its second disc.
