Rock Band hosts over 1,000 songs; Adding Night Ranger and more Nirvana

Harmonix and MTV announced today that Rock Band now has more than 1,000 songs available.
That’s a load of DLC right there.
“When we launched Rock Band two years ago, we made a promise to create a music gaming experience that delivered on a weekly basis more songs and artists than ever imagined,” said Harmonix co-founder Alex Rigopulos. “We’re extremely proud to pass this remarkable milestone of over 1,000 songs in Rock Band and will continue to innovate and bring more of the best music to Rock Band players all over the world.”
To date, Rock Band fans have downloaded more than 60 million songs from the Rock Band Music Store.
Next week, a three pack of songs from Nirvana as well as a three pack of songs from Night Ranger will be added to the list on December 1 and 3 for Wii/Xbox 360 and PS3, respectively.
Here’s the list:
- Nirvana – (Come As You Are (Live from MTV Unplugged), Lithium (Live at Reading), Smells Like Teen Spirit
- Night Ranger – (You Can Still) Rock in America, Don’t Tell Me You Love Me, You’re Gonna Hear It From Me
The packs will run you $5.49/£3.99/€2.49 or 440 MS Points, while individual tracks will run $1.99/£.99/€1.49, 160 MS Points or 200 Wii Points.

Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Joan Jett tracks land on Rock Band next week

Harmonix has announced via press release that next week’s bit DLC for the Rock Band franchise will include Foo Fighters, Joan Jett, and Nirvana.
Here’s the details:
- Foo Fighters Track Pack: Best of You, The Pretender, Wheels, Word Forward (560 MS Points -$7.00/£4.76/€6.51)
- Joan Jett & the Blackhearts: Fake Friends
- Nirvana Bleach Pack: About a Girl, Blew, School (440 MS Points – $5.50/£3.74/€5.12)
Each hits November 3 and 5 for Xbox 360 and PS3, respectively, and can be downloaded individually for 160 MS Points ($2).
Wii gets ‘em too.

Kurt Cobain a playable character in Guitar Hero 5

Activision has announced that Kurt Cobain will be a playable character in Guitar Hero 5.
His likeness, controlled by you, will be performing two of the band’s singles from their 1991 album Nevermind: “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and a previously unreleased live recording of “Lithium.”
“Kurt Cobain is one of the most recognizable frontmen in rock ‘n’ roll history and it’s an honor to have two of Nirvana’s masterpieces included in Guitar Hero 5,” said Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs for Activision. “This is the first time the original recording of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ has ever been licensed in an entertainment property and we’re thrilled to offer Guitar Hero® fans exclusive access to the unreleased live version of ‘Lithium.’”
Wonder how much of a cut Courtney Love got out of this.
It’s out next month for the usual suspects.

Guitar Hero World Tour April DLC reveals Pixies, Nirvana and Motörhead

As per headline, Activision has revealed its DLC list for April that includes Pixies, Nirvana and Motörhead.
The Pixies tracks include the seminal Debaser and Monkey Gone to Heaven, whilst the Nirvana tracks are Very Ape, Sappy & Stay Away.
If you like strumming you bass guitar then you can sing along with Lemmy to Jailbait, Love Me Like a Reptile and Iron Fist.

Rock Band gets a dose of Nirvana on Wii

Wii owners are to finally get a grand taste of Nirvana: seven master recordings from the album Nevermind are on the way.
The songs – Breed, Lounge Act, On a Plain, Polly, Something in the Way, Stay Away, and Territorial Pissings – are up for grabs through the Rock Band Music Store.
These join In Bloom from the original game disc, and Drain You, included in Rock Band 2.
Each track runs the usual $2 (200 Wii Points) through the in-game Rock Band 2 Music Store.

Rock Band 2 gets Nirvana DLC
Harmonix has announced that Rock Band 1 and 2 will be getting seven Nirvana track to download this week.
The songs are “Breed”, “Lounge Act”, “On a Plain”, “Polly”, “Something in the Way”, “Stay Away” and “Territorial Pissings”: all from the hit album, Nevermind.
It’ll cost you 880 MS points for the whole thing, or around £8 if you’re downloading from PSN. Individual tracks cost 160 points, or around £2.
