A six-person committee formed by the International Trade Commission has ruled that Xbox 360 doesn’t violate a patent owned by Google subsidiary Motorola Mobility.

Xbox 360 does not violate a patent held by Motorola, US trade judge David Shaw said in a note posted to the ITC website (PDF). The patent in question pertains to wireless network connections, and the dispute over it has been going on between the two firms since 2010 – in both Europe and the US. The judge’s findings will now be heard by a six-member commission. It was reported back in January that Motorola had dropped two of its patent infringement suits against Microsoft regarding video-coding and connectivity tech within the console, but apparently not the wireless patent. Motorola has lost a court case to block the sale of Xbox 360 consoles in American and German over a patent dispute with Microsoft. Presiding over the case, a US judge has ruled that the component in question is a ‘Frand’-type innovation – and therefore necessary to the entire industry, and that no one company can claim outright ownership. get the details below

Microsoft rejected a settlement with Motorola over the ActiveSync patent dispute used in 4GB and 250GB Xbox 360 Slim consoles, Windows 7, internet explorer and Windows media player. The mobile phone company ad offered to take a 2.25% royalty on 360 sales and 5¢ for every copy of Windows sold. In May, Judge David Shaw ruled Microsoft should pay a bond of 7% of the value of unsold Xbox 360 inventory on hand in the US, and that the firm should be handed a cease-and-desist order on Slim in the US unless the firm agreed to a settlement. Should the be implemented by the ITC, there will be a 60-day period in which the US president can overturn the decision. If not, Microsoft will be banned from selling the products in the US,  and in Germany. Thanks, CVG.[image]

An International Trade Commission judge has recommended a ban on the import of 4GB and 250GB Xbox 360 Slim consoles to the US, effectively putting an end to further sales of these models should the ban be upheld.

A US International Trade Commission judge has ruled that Microsoft violated four Motorola Mobility patents with Xbox 360. A commission will now review the ruling and determine what action should be taken. The body has the ability and authority to put a ban on selling products which infringe on patents. However, should a settlement be reached between the two companies, the decision would be tossed. Motorola told Bloomberg it filed the complaint because Microsoft alleged the firm’s Android devices were in violation of patents file by Microsoft. Thanks, Gamespot.
