Full Marathon trilogy available for free on iOS
The Marathon trilogy for iOS can now be yours for free through the App Store. The last game in the set, Marathon Infinity was released yesterday on the service. Each title is free in standard definition, but if you want the games in a higher resolution, each will run you $1.99. There’s also a Master Chief mode for 99¢ which contains cheat options and a level select, and for another 99¢ you can get IAP for various different crosshairs. Bungie’s Destiny contract detailed; Marathon reboot in the works
Couldn’t be bothered slogging through all 27 pages of the 2010 contract between Bungie and Activision? Develop has done all the work for you. In addition to previously reported details of platform, schedule and bonuses, the contract reveals Bungie staff are free to work on a Marathon-related project; can move onto non-Activision projects after earning $750 million; that Valve, Epic and Gearbox are banned from developing ports of Activision-published titles; and that the first game has a total budget of $140 million. Bungie’s first sci-fi trilogy released for free
A free, open-source version of Halo developer Bungie’s classic Marathon trilogy has been released online. Available for Linux, Mac and PC, the pack contains an updated version of the engine, a fan remake of the first Marathon, and lovingly HD remastered versions of Marathon 2 and Marathon Infinity. The new versions sport modern features like online multiplayer including co-op; control pad support; and OpenGL shader functionality. You can grab the pack here. The Marathon series of shooters kicked off in 1994 and wrapped up in 1996, predating Halo by five years.

Fan-made Marathon for iPad available now
To celebrate Bungie Day, a fan-made iPad remake of Marathon is now available from the App Store right now for free. There’ll be a $3.99 charge for those looking to upgrade to the hi-res texture pack to make it look pretty and stuff. Get it from the store here.

Bungie’s Marathon is heading to iPad, and the science-fiction FPS is being ported by indie developer Daniel Blezek using the game’s source code, which was released for free back in 1999.
