Eades: Home is “realising its potential”

home

Relentless boss Andy Eades has told VG that PS3′s Home is a dog that’s apparently about to have its day.

“Only now you’re starting to see that it’s realising its potential,” said the developer.

There’s still a way to go, though.

“Even now probably not quite as much as everyone would like to do,” Eades added. “But Sony has to build the tools to allow people to create content for it.

“The stuff coming through now is more compelling than when it first launched. It felt like a bit of a gap in the beginning when there wasn’t enough cool stuff happening. It always seems to be quite busy.”

More through there. Thanks, Joystiq.

US PS Home: Assassin’s Creed, Final Fantasy XIII, Fullmetal Alchemist

lawman

This week on PS Home, the first full episode of Fullmetal Alchemist’s second season will be playing at the 10-Screen Theater for free until November 19.

There’s also a never-before-seen Final Fantasy XIII video airing tomorrow, Friday the 13th, which is more than likely the same video we mentioned to you yesterday. Probably.

Hilariously, A&E’s reality series Lawman gets an advanced screening on Home and you can even get a free virtual item – a Lawman Vest – just for walking your virtual self into the 10-Screen Theater. Never heard of the show? Well, it’s about policeman/actor Steven Seagal enforcing the law in New Orleans’ Jefferson Parish district. We’re snickering now.

One last thing, virtual Assassin’s Creed II items like hats, shirts, hoodies and wristbands are over in the Home Mall this week.

More information can be found over on the US PS Blog.

Sony says Home is “still a top priority”, Edwards was “misquoted”

homelogo

Sony has gone on the defense over a report from Edge quoting Home director Pete Edwards as stating that Home was “not a top priority”.

According to Sony’s PlayStation Home Manager, Edwards was misquoted and misrepresented.

“Edwards was saying that monetizing Home was not as big a priority as building a great platform, with a compelling environment and a strong community. Home is still a top priority for Sony and will continue to release quality content and provide a positive experience to our users,” it was explained on the official PlayStation forums.

So there you have it.

SCEE Home promises to catch up to other regions

homelogoa

EU PlayStation Home community manager, TedTheDog, has admitted that the game space lacks the content offered elsewhere, but promises it will get more soon.

“Let’s be honest, SCEE Home is behind the other regions in the number of spaces we have to offer,” he said on the official forums. “That’s not to say we don’t have some really good clothing and furniture, we’ve actually got some excellent partners in the shopping centre.

“In isolation we don’t think this makes SCEE Home a bad place but we fully understand the regional comparisons and why they’re made.

“In the spirit of openness being requested of us, and that we’ve committed to, we’re going to say what we’re going to do about this and in short, we’re going to switch our priorities to the production of spaces for the foreseeable future. We will continue to support our partners in the shopping centre but our primary focus will be to improve our output and range of spaces.”

He explained that Europe’s version of Home fell behind due to lack of staff resources, but more content’s on the way thanks to a new hire.

“The timeline for this is probably about the next two to four months and there is likely to be a drop in output before it starts to really pick up and improve,” he said.

SCEE plans to introduce 17 new Home spaces along with the Uncharted, Warhawk and Resident Evil 5 themes already present in other regions.

Home “will continue to develop and change over time,” says Sony boss

Speaking yesterday at the Gamer 3.0 conference in London, Jamie MacDonald, vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, said PlayStation Home will “continue to evolve, change and develop over time”, which is a policy the company was employing with all future titles.

“The thing that I should stress about Home, unlike a typical boxed product it will continue to evolve and change and develop over time, it’s not a one off thing, ” he said.

“Indeed that’s the way we’re developing all of our titles these days. We’re becoming service providers almost rather than product providers.”

Far Cry 2 gets Home space

According to PSBlog, the Far Cry 2 PlayStation Home space has launched on the closed beta.

“The space will invite players to dig deeper into the game’s vast African landscape,” says the piece. “Users will have the opportunity to investigate in-game environments, including a bombed-out train station that has been converted into the ad hoc office of Reuben Oluwagembi, a journalist caught in the middle of the propaganda conflict between the warring UFLL and APR factions.”

Looks pretty good, if we’re honest. All we need now is that release date.

Rumour: “£40 million spent on Home so far,” says man on train

homea.jpg

We’ve just overheard some chaps talking about Home on the train to Leipzig from Berlin. This is what was said:

  • £40 million has been spent on Home so far.
  • Home’s been in development for five years.
  • Home was originally a PlayStation 2 initiative.

Home’s likely to make a decent appearance in Sony’s press conference at Games Convention this week.

Please bear in mind this has come from a man on a train in Germany. You didn’t see us here, right?
