Relentless will self-publish new title, still close to Sony

Last year, Relentless talked to VG247 about a new secret project in the works: today he company confirmed it’ll be self-publishing it.
The Buzz maker has been hard at work on this new Sony title, and despite the world’s economic woes, can afford to self-publish. The firm’s even looking to hire more staff.
“Despite the current economic crisis, we’re pleased to say that we’re still hiring,” says the Relentless website.
“We have some open positions for our future Buzz titles and we’re also hiring for our self-published Secret Project, more news of which in the coming months.
“At Relentless we’re more than a one hit wonder. Sony keep us very busy with our Buzz projects but there’s something bubbling under at Relentless Towers. We’ve taken everything we’ve learned about making social games and the result is what, for the time being, is known as Secret Project #1.”
Good to hear.

Buzz! for PS3 and PSP “this spring”
According to this, SCEE’s planning to release Buzz! Quiz TV “around the same time” as Buzz! for PSP “this spring.” There was no solid release date for either title. Buzz! is the Brighton-developed, PlayStation-exclusive quiz franchise that’s been in the news recently for being the subject of a US lawsuit filed by Californian quiz outfit, Buzztime. A bit of the old legal obviously isn’t enough to hold up new releases.

Buzztime sues Sony over Buzz!
California-based Buzztime Entertainment has filed a suit against SCEE, says this, alleging that the Buzz! series of games, developed by Relentless in Brighton, UK, infringes its trademarks. Buzztime makes trivia games for bars and restaurants, apparently played by 13 million people a month.
According to that Gamespot report, “The Buzztime Entertainment trademarks cover uses of the terms for ‘entertainment in the nature of interactive games played via interactive television and an interactive global computer network,’ and ‘equipment for playing a plug and play game, namely, video game machines for use with televisions, video game interactive remote control units, video game cartridges, and interactive video game programs,’ among other things.”
Buzztime wants all infringing products recalled and… destroyed. They should go the whole hog and try to get them ejected into space. More on this as it unfolds.
