EA Sports Active now has TWO real-world stores
EA Sports Active stores are spreading, it seems. The San Francisco brick and mortar outlet we reported on yesterday isn’t alone: Boston’s also lucky enough to be able to go and look at very blonde, very fatless people get very excited about crouching in front of a TV screen.
Visitors get a “personalized” demo to the product. Details here.
The Boston store’s got a scooter in it too. Why? Thanks, Joystiq.

Boston mayor and former game critic has change of heart

Last year, Boston mayor Tom Menino was heavily involved in trying get anti-videogame legislation passed. Now he’s attempting to woo companies by declaring Boston a “game industry friendly city”.
Menino recently announced the launch of a website called PoweringUpBoston, a tool promoting the area’s game industry with news, job postings and other resources.
His change of heart comes on the heels of a 2007 and 2008 push for or a sales restrictions on videogames, similar to restrictions recently found unconstitutional by federal courts.
Also, in 2006, he campaigned to have Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories ads removed from city buses.
Menino’s new focus, however, is on “strengthening the Boston-area game development presence, raising Boston’s profile as a global leader in digital media and specifically the game industry.”
2K Boston, Harmonix, Turbine and 73 other companies employ over 1,500 people in the area.

East Coast PAX will be based in Boston
East Coast PAX – it was announced at the beginning of August, kids – has been firmed up today, and is now confirmed to be taking place in Boston in 2010.
From 1UP:
The official opening of Penny Arcade Expo 2008 is still a few hours away, but we were able to sit down with Penny Arcade creators Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik to discuss various and sundry PA-related things. Notably, they dropped the news that their next big project — a second yearly Penny Arcade Expo set on the East Coast — is slated to debut in Boston in 2010. The new PAX, which will complement rather than replace the existing Seattle event, is still in the planning stages, but the duo has been determined to return to the city since delivering a presentation at MIT a few years ago.
Thanks, EvilAvatar.
