Thief Guide. Chapter 5: The Forsaken Walkthrough - How to Kill the Freaks

Objective 1: Reach the Asylum Grounds

Run and jump at the wall to get into the asylum grounds. Sneak to the left of the building and pick up the City Heritage Plaques (9/16) - Moira Asylum. Now head over to the right of the building, and the door will swing wide and a statue appears. Check it out, and grab the loot.

Objective 2: Find Information about Erin

Head on in and peer through the peephole. Once the doors open, scour the place for loot - including the floors above and below you. Once you're done, go through the revolving doors to reach the Men's Ward. Head east and look for an office with a valve. Turn it, and a gate will open, giving you access to another set of revolving doors. Go through, and you'll find a big area for you to loot safely. Just don't go into rooms M02 and M12 yet. When you've searched everywhere, enter M02 and look through the peephole on the south wall. Exit the room and use your Razor Tool to steal The Court of Montonessi (10/12). It's a painting, if you couldn't guess.

Now go to M12 and grab the key on the floor. That'll let you into the Women's Ward.

Objective 3: Enter the Women's Ward

Go into the Women's Ward, loot the first room and then exit, and you'll see a document on the wall. This will reveal that the Night Warden is on duty. He needs to be avoided, and the way to do it is to run left, then turn right and go down the hall. Take the first hall on your right and sprint to the end. The revolving doors should be on your left. Enter, and you will have avoided the Night Warden.

Go through the two sets of revolving doors, use the key to open the door beyond them, and then enter the room and turn on the valve that's there. Exit and sneak over to the north stairs. Fire a Rope Arrow in the anchor beam above and use it to climb down onto an elevator. Drop further to land in a room which contains a Flowers Eternal (5/6) - Rose Brooch. If you can't find it, use Focus and look up.

Return from where you just came, heading towards your objective marker just outside the office where you turned the valve. Enter the revolving door.

Objective 4: Search for the Asylum Records

Explore all rooms except W07 and pick up any loot you find, and then go back to W07 and pick the lock. Go inside, and then crawl through the hole in the wall to enter W05. Climb into the window and leap to access the south office. Snag the three documents here, using Focus if you have a hard time finding them.

Objective 5: Move to the Treatment Wing

Just follow your objective past the rubble and you'll reach it

Objective 6: Descend to the Treatment Level

Take the note on the wall, go down the stairs and enter the door. Jump to the beam and then the platform beyond. There's a gate blocking the path. Go upstairs, turn the wheel to raise the gate and then head down to the bottom level. Keep moving toward your objectives until they update.

Objective 7: Access Room 3F

You can explore and loot this area without risk. Once you're done, head south to Room 3F. However, you can't get in there yet.

Objective 8: Find and Start the Power Generator

Loot the office and hallway. Just be careful of the trap. It's a good idea to disable it by hacking the control box (use your focus to see it if you can't find it). Head west and loot the room, then flip the switch to turn on the generator.

Objective 9: How to Find a Way into Room 3F

Although everything's lit up, you're safe for now. Return to the office and hit the switch to open the various cells. There are crazy patients roaming about, but the gate's still closed, so you're safe. Leave the office and go into the open door across the hall. Loot the room and then crawl through to room 3F.

Objective 10: Descend to the Asylum's Lowest Level

Here's where things start getting dangerous. There are three threads to deal with - two immediately and one a little later. All can be taken care of by sneaking behind them and knocking them out. Another way to do it is to create a distraction by throwing a bottle into the hallway, and then taking two out with headshots, or setting them alight using a fire arrow fired onto the floor. When at least two of the patients are down, go to cell 3E. Loot the place, making sure to open the safe and steal the Serendi Stone Circles (5/7) - Ivory Circle.

Sneak through the passage and enter room 3B. Knock out the patient building a fire, loot the place and then drop down into the elevator shaft, go through the vent and continue moving forward until your objective updates.

Objective 11: Locate Erin's Holding Cell

There are eight Freaks in this area. If you're fully stocked up on arrows - as you always should be - you can use them to eliminate them all. Otherwise, it'll be your sneaking skills that'll get you through. If you have arrows, Fire to the head and Blast to the body will do the trick.

Loot the reception area and then sneak through the doorway to the north. Shoot the Freak with a Fire Arrow. There are two more Freaks are to the west, and you can take them out by sneaking and using Fire Arrows. Head to the northwest of the room and there's a breakable vase. Make sure the coast is clear, and smash it open to get the Memories of the Dead (4/6) - Child's Memory.

Return to the reception desk and approach the west railing behind it. Use Focus and you should see a couple of Freaks in front of you and to your left. Wait for one of the Freaks to walk into the southeast corner and take him down with a headshot. If you hit the target, nobody will be the wiser. If you miss, Freaks will start looking for you. Luckily, you're fairly safe from this vantage point. Kill all the Freaks you can here and then vault the railing. Sneak forward just a bit before climbing on some crates to the south. Put a Rope Arrow into the anchor beam above to go with the one already there. Jump from one rope to another, then to the walkway in the middle of the room. Up here, you will find the Unique Loot (6/9) - Mechanical Eye

Now drop down and sneak toward your objective. As long as you don't land on or walk through glass, you should be fine. Freaks can't actually see you, they can only hear you. If you do come close to one left alive, just sneak past it.

Continue forward, following the markers until your objective is updated.

Objective 12: Leave the Asylum

This is fairly straightforward... just walk outside. That's it, one of the creepiest chapters in the game is now complete.
