A new fan campaign has been launched to try and pressure Sega into producing a localisation for the PlayStation 3-exclusive Yakuza 5. All previous games in the series have been released in the west, usually after a long delay, and in very small quantities – so it’s a fair bet that we can expect some decision on the December 2012 Japan release soon. It’s also worth noting that Sega itself uses social networks to gauge interest in localisations. Do the Like and Share thing here.

Yakuza 5 has not been confirmed for western localisation, but that won’t stop über fans downloading and enjoying the Japanese demo when it release next week.

The Yakuza series has a long narrative tail, spelled out in dramatic cut-scenes. Familiarising yourself with the events of just one game’s twists and turns will give you a working knowledge of gangster Japanese, so tune into over 17 minutes of incomprehensible trailer if that’s what floats your boat.

Yakuza 5 has better turn up in the west or my adoration of these two new, release date-celebrating trailers will be wasted.

Yakuza 5 brings back some of your favourite gangsters; see them in all their sharp-suited, moderately sociopathic glory through the break.

A gentle trickle of Yakuza 5 details continues today with an update on taxi missions. This is almost as baffling and wonderful as Shenmue’s forklifts.

Famed Sega creative Toshihiro Nagoshi is a big PlayStation fan, but expects home consoles to bow out before portable platforms.

Oh boy. Binary Domain isn’t afraid to present human nature at its worst. Is there any way to play for the robot side?

This Binary Domain cinematic could have gone in a lot of directions, but the one which ends in the sappy hero getting a scolding from the proletariat is pretty great.

NPCs ignoring your orders because you are incapable of understanding the concept of “teamwork”? Binary Domain also has multiplayer, so you can chum up with thousands of other rubbish players.

A new splash page has appeared this morning, teasing what appears to be the next game from Binary Domain creator Toshihiro Nagoshi and Yakuza Studio. And that’s pretty much it. All we know is it’s something called “Project A.” Besides Binary Domain, Nagoshi and his team are also working on Yakuza: Black Panther 2 for PSP and Yakuza 5 for PS3. We’re going long and saying this is for Y5. There’s a reason the Yakuza website is mentioned but not Binary Domain, right?
