Tigon – Some in Hollywood see games as “meaningless bullshit”

Head of Vin Diesel’s Tigon Studios, Ian Stevens, reckons plenty of those in Hollywood are simply forced into games for financial reasons.
“There’s certainly no shortage of guys that look at games and see them as toys, and meaningless bullshit, and now look at revenue – and for their own survival’s sake have to care, and have to get involved,” said Stevens of the Hollywood community.
“I think a lot of it has changed because we’re making so much more money than they are.”

Vin Diesel “begged” for Dark Athena multiplayer

Vin Diesel’s told G4 that he “begged” for online multiplay to be included in Assault on Dark Athena.
He begged. He probably cried a bit too.
The actor told the TV station that the game was well into production as a single-player-only entity, but Vin put his foot down on the subject of a multiplayer component at the eleventh hour.
See the video after the break. The game’s out on April 24.
Thanks, Kotaku.

Diesel confirms Tigon MMO, Barca BC

Vin Diesel’s confirmed that Tigon’s been working on an MMO, Barca BC, for the past three years, Destructoid reports.
“My dream game is something we’ve been working on in-house. We haven’t talked about it much because we’ve been mulling over how to do it just right. My dream game is a game that we’re developing called Barca BC,” Diesel said at a press conference this week.
“The reason why it’s my dream game is because it is an MMO and — remember you said funds were not an issue in this scenario, this is obviously a hugely expensive game — but, it’s a massively multiplayer online game where you create an avatar that lives in the reality of Hannibal Barca, the Punic Wars and life 200 BC.”
There’s more through there, including an estimate that we’re not going to see the game for another four years.

Midway’s Wheelman delayed, demo announced
Kotaku sends word that Midway’s Vin Diesel-centric open worlder has hit a snag. Originally scheduled for February 20, it’s now dropping exactly one slightly truncated month later on March 20.
Fortunately, a pre-release demo has been squeezed out of Midway’s emaciated form, though when it’ll actually ooze onto Xbox Live and PSN is anyone’s guess.
For those who are interested, a few new screens are also lurking on the official Wheelman page. To be honest, though, we were way too distracted by the game’s totally rad website to spend much time with a few immobile, buzz-killing screens. Seriously, go check it out. It’ll make a man out of you.

Wheelman out on February 20 in US and Europe
Wheelman will release in the US and Europe on February 20, Midway’s announced.
The adaptation of the Vin Diesel movie has been created in partnership with Diesel’s own game production firm, Tigon Studios.
“We’re designing Wheelman to play like a Hollywood blockbuster,” said the man himself.
“Playing this game will be just like taking control of the greatest car chases from feature films, except this time you’re in the driver’s seat.”
We’re hard in our pants, Vin. Press release after the link.

Atari officially announced as publisher of Ghostbusters and Riddick, release windows revealed
So it was rumored; so shall it be. After a relaxing summer in publishing limbo, Ghostbusters officially has a new shuttle onto shelves in the form of Atari.
The company gave the universal sign for “no comment” when asked about Ghostbusters’ release date, but Variety’s sources claim it’ll launch next summer, riding a wave of hype generated by the film’s 25th anniversary.
More of a surprise, however, is the announcement that Atari has also nabbed Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena — a sort of version 1.5 sequel to Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay – along with a new licensing deal for the be-goggled anti-hero.
Assault on Dark Athena will put us back in prison with Vin Diesel next spring, with further sequels to presumably be revealed at a later date.
