Ghostbusters budget between $15 and $20 million

ghostbusters1b

The Star Telegram has revealed that Terminal Reality’s Ghostbusters: The Videogame had a budget of somewhere between 15 and 20 million dollars.

“The videogame has already achieved “blockbuster” status with an estimated 1 million units sold,” says the article.

“Terminal Reality’s videogame was the product of years of planning and execution, thousands of hours of work [and] a final budget of USD 15 million – USD 20 million.”

Terminal Reality boss Randel would love to make a film on the rumoured third film, too: “You can bet that if that movie were to come out, we’d just love to do another Ghostbusters game based on it,” he said.

Thanks, Euro-gamer.

Terminal Reality wrote two-thirds of Ghostbusters script

ghostbusters3

Atari may be touting that Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis were the writers of the Ghostbusters game, but both men acknowledge that it’s more of a marketing ploy than anything.

Speaking with The New York Times, Aykroyd said that Terminal Reality came to him with script in hand, and he and Ramis supplied the structure and tone.

“In the beginning they came to me, and I said, ‘I encourage you, go ahead,’ ” he said. “They gave me the script. I took it. I rewrote it doing little tiny structural things, mostly bringing back the tone of the original dialogue and the vernacular — the terms, the idiom — but they really had it.

“Two-thirds of it was there. Then they gave it to Harold. He did the same thing.”

While Aykroyd admitted he is not a gamer, he was still impressed by Terminal Reality’s knowledge of special effects as well as its familiarity with Ghostbusters’ lingo and style.

Ghosbuster devs don’t want customers confused over distribution changes

ghostbusters3

Terminal Reality doesn’t want consumers to be confused over the constant publishing changes for Ghostbusters: The Video Game.

After changing hands three times within a year, VP Joe Kreiner says the team is frustrated and hoping the alterations do not sully customer expectations.

“It is not the ideal situation for a developer like Terminal Reality as we really enjoy a collaborative relationship when we work with publishers, so that has had to be rebooted every time the game changes hands,” Kriener told GI.biz.

“As a developer these distribution decisions are handled far above our level and is not been something that we would have a say in. We have just focused on keeping the teams attention on making the best game we possibly can.

“We do not want the consumer to be confused as that can hurt sales. Our hope is that this is a transparent change to the gamer and that the desire to play the next authentic chapter of Ghostbusters is a draw that overcomes any complications.

“All I can say from the Terminal Reality perspective is that the game is done on all platforms. We are really pleased with the final result and happy that it is ready for the fans on every platform whenever the decision is made to release it.

It was announced yesterday that Sony would publish the PlayStation versions of the game in Europe, thus pushing the Microsoft and Nintendo SKUs later into the year.

All platform versions in North America will still release on schedule via Atari.

Sony press releases Ghostbusters capture

ghostbusters2

Sony just confirmed by press release that it’s to publish the PlayStation platform versions of Ghostbusters in PAL territories.

The PS3 and PS2 SKUs will hit in June. The PSP outing will follow in the “autumn”.

Atari told us this morning that the DS, Wii and 360 versions will follow later in the year.

Ghostbusters – 360, Wii and DS SKUs to release later this year

ghostbusters5

An Atari rep has told VG247 that non-PlayStation Ghostbusters SKUs will definitely release later this year.

“We’re still waiting on official dates,” we were told this morning.

It was confirmed earlier that Sony is to publish the PS3, PS2 and PSP versions of the game, and, according to conversations we’ve just had, has a period of exclusivity over the other versions.

It’s worth noting that Ghostbusters is a Columbia IP. Which is owned by Sony. Which is publishing a Blu-ray anniversary version of the movie along with the PS3 and PS2 versions on June 19.

News that the DS, Wii and 360 versions will hit in 2009 will come as relief to many.

A Sony press release is expected this lunchtime BST.

Sony to issue Ghostbusters press release today

ghostbusters8

A SCEE rep’s confirmed to VG247 that the firm is to publish Ghostbusters, as rumoured earlier.

A press release is expected around lunchtime today.

We’re waiting on comment from Atari.

The move likely means that non-PlayStation versions of the Terminal Reality title will struggle to find release, although it was reported earlier that Atari may publish the 360 version itself.

There’s no official reason for the swap to Sony as yet, although this probably isn’t the sunniest thing to have ever happened to Atari on a Wednesday morning.

Report: Sony to publish Ghostbusters, uncertainty surrounds 360 version

ghostbusters3

GI’s reporting that Sony’s picked up Ghostbusters from Atari.

The game is set for a June 19 release, but now only on the PS3 and PS2. A PSP version will come months later.

Apparently the 360 version may be released by Atari later on, but there appears to be some uncertainty about what’s going on with that.

Should have more on this soon.

Ghostbusters gets multiplayer dev diary and screens

ghostbusters16

Atari has released a few new Ghostbusters screenshots, along with a dev diary from the game’s multiplayer developers.

Threewave, the firm handling co-op for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, was initially skeptical about working on the project because “movie licensed games are not something that Threewave, being a group of mostly hardcore shooter fans, usually get excited about.”

The team changed its tune after about a month.

Read on for the diary and hit up Shacknews for the shots.

Ghostbusters isn’t coming to PSP, says Atari

ghostbusters3

Remember that ESRB posting that said Ghostbusters was coming to PSP? It was a giant, marshmallow-shaped lie.

Atari told Eurogamer so today.

You’ll just have to play it on DS, Wii, PS3, PS2 and 360 when it releases this June.
