Bioware has announced SWTOR Update 1.6: Ancient Hypergate will launch next week. The update introduces the new Ancient Hypergate Warzone where players will team up to gain control over powerful energy pylons. These pylons can be used to “unleash the power of the ancient Gree hypergate” against one’s enemies. The update will also include six Heroic Space Missions for each faction. Servers will be brought down in the game to apply the update on December 11.

Star Wars: The Old Republic fans keen on new content can check out upcoming Update 1.6, Ancient Hypergate, on the MMORPG’s test servers. The beta includes a new warzone in which players battle to control a portal which promises to deliver reinforcements but can damage the controlling team, as well as a six new heroic missions for each faction, which reward elite gear and Black Hole Commendations. SWTOR’s latest developer blog has been posted, and it provides plenty of details on Update 1.5 – specifically missions pertaining to Section X and HK-51. There’s also plenty of spoilers for character’s in-game storylines, but thankfully players can avoid those by not logging in; thus avoiding anything spolieriffic. SWTOR has a new developer dispatch video available which discusses some of the new content coming with Game Update 1.5: HK-51 Activated. In the video, members of the development team outline some of the missions present in the new Section X area on Belsavis, how players will search the galaxies for clues in order to unlock the HK-51 Companion as their very own Assassin Droid, and more. There’s also a look the final pieces of the Dread Guard gear set and a rare new mount earned by taking on Operation: Explosive Conflict in Nightmare Mode.

SWTOR Game Update 1.4, Terror from Beyond, has a developer video available for viewing below the break. In the update, players will be “called upon to face a mysterious new threat that has emerged from one of the most obscure places in the galaxy: the Gree planet of Asation.” It seems as those the Gree have been “safeguarding ancient technologies” on the planet for a very, very long time, and somehow, one of these called the “Hypergate” has been activated. It has caused nasty creatures to come through, and players will be dispatched to Asation to close the Hypergate and stop this terrible menace before it gets out of control.

Star Wars: The Old Republic free-to-play incentives have been expanded upon by BioWare due to players vote. Now, rewards for current and returning subscribers will include a Party Jawa, which Massively describes as a “fun-loving native of Tatooine who has nothing better to do than bring the festivities to you.” The reward chart will also include 250 cartel coins for those who purchased the digital deluxe edition of SWTOR. The MMO goes F2P in November.
