Pickford Bros kick-off indie developer promotion campaign

Veteran video game designers, John and Ste Pickford, have called on indie developers to promote one another’s projects. The pair have led by example, highlighting 11 independently produced iOS titles to feature on their website, the list will also be included with the next update of their own iOS title, the BAFTA-nominated Magnetic Billiards: Blueprint.

The Pickford Bros intend to regularly update the list and are encouraging other indie devs to do the same: “If every indie dev picked 10 other games to promote we’d all be helping each other out enormously,” suggested Ste, “and we’d strengthen the position of self-publishing indies in general”.

Magnetic Billiards to get “further content expansions” in “coming months”

20110309magneticbilliards

The Pickford Brothers said this morning additional content for Magnetic Billiards: Blueprint was on its way. In addition to content and game modes already available to buy in-app, more content will drop “in the coming months.” This is to celebrate the fact that the game, which is free-to-play, has now hit 100 five-star reviews, as well as other critical success in other countries’ app stores. You can buy it from iTunes for either iPhone or iPad here.

Pickfords switch Naked War to free-play

In celebration of the fact more than 100,000 turns have been made on Pickford brothers-developed strategy game Naked War, Zee-3′s decided to make the title free to play. That’s nice, isn’t it?

As of today, you’ll be able to continue your free trial forever, apparently, and existing subs now have infinite “challenge credits,” allowing them to play as many games as they like for no extra charge.

Bargain.

“We wanted to mark this landmark event in Naked War’s history by doing something to say a big ‘thank you’ to all the subscribers, players, and members of the Naked War community that have been supporting indie development, and enjoying Naked War, for the last couple of years,” said co-designer Ste Pickford.

“We also wanted to underline our continued commitment to this, our first ever indie release. When we launched, some people were nervous about joining in a game based around a subscription and server model – they didn’t know if the game would be around for long, or if the servers would stay running. Well, we’ve been running for nearly three years now, with no sign of stopping, and we’re still making changes and improvements to the game!”

Hope over here for a nose. There’s a movie of it in action after the break.
