With sales of over 100,000 units in its first weekend, Pokémon X & Y has become Australia’s fastest-selling Nintendo game. The new entry takes the title from precursor Pokémon Black & White, which managed 80,000 in its first week – a figure X & Y managed in over one day. The figures come courtesy of the NPD Group Australia. Nintendo Australia has released more stock of X & Y this week, as some retailers ran out completely.

Over 200,000 3DS consoles have been sold in Australia as of its 37th week, and both the local arm of Nintendo and the NPD Group agree this makes it the fastest-selling console in the nation’s history – despite a hair raising launch price. It was not revealed how many of the sales occurred after an August price cut. The 3DS is also performing strongly in Japan, where it had its best-ever week, and in the UK, where holiday stock ran perilously low.
