Bernard: Premium App Store DLC is “raping” the consumer

mechowars

Outspoken developer Luc Bernard’s popped up again, this time saying paid DLC for games on the App Store can be likened to “rape”. Don’t go changing, Luc.

“We could have made the online portion of the game an in-app micro transaction but I think that would be raping the customer,” Bernard told PocketGamer, talking of his recent iPhone Mecho Wars title.

“I honestly don’t believe in paid-for DLC on the App Store. Most of the top games are 99 cents games so the average iPhone customer is obviously not willing to spend a lot of cash on games. To be honest, I would rather have a fresh new experience than loads of additional content.”

The paid DLC option was added in the latest iThing firmware release. More through there.

Mecho Wars gets massive free update for iPhone

mechowars

Luc Bernard’s Mecho Wars on iPhone got a massive free update to the game yesterday.

The patch for the real-time strategy game adds info tiles for each piece that can be brought up by tapping on a character, which in turn tells gamers the movements, attack range, strengths, and weaknesses of other unit classes.

Two maps were also included for the story-free challenge mode, which you can only access once the game has been beaten, along with a new single-player campaign played from the Landian point of view.
