Modern Warfare 2 London launch tonight, liveblog now
Acti’s holding Britain’s first Leicester Square game premiere in London tonight for Modern Warfare 2, and we’re here. We’re beyond excitement. Here’s the line: we’re standing on the other side of it.
The “official briefing” takes place at 7.00pm tonight, and we’ll liveblog it for you. Why not? It lasts for an hour. Famous people are expected. There may be a gun or two. There’s even a “secret gig” supported by “top DJs” after it.
We’re now updating after the link.

Modern Warfare 2 to get Leicester Square launch in London
In a “world’s first” announcement, Acti said today that Modern Warfare 2 is to be launched at a Leicester Square event in London, “home of the ‘Hollywood Premiere’.”
The screening’s to be compered by a celeb fan.
The event will also be supported by an “epic” midnight opening at HMV’s Trocadero Store.
There’s also to be a “VIP launch party” in “a secret underground bunker,” headlined by one of the “UK’s biggest male artists of 2009.”
We’re practically shitting ourselves with excitement, now. Hit the link for the PR.

Eurogamer Expo 2009 line-up announced, is bonkers
Eurogamer Expo 2009 just announced its full publisher line-up, and it’s pretty much “complete,” from the look of it.
Sony, Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Eidos, Sega, Capcom, Konami, 2K, Bethesda, Namco and Deep Silver will all have playable games on hand.
This year’s show is split over two UK locations. The Leeds event is being held at The Royal Armouries on October 27-28, followed by a London leg at Old Billingsgate October 30-31.
Games confirmed so far include Assassin’s Creed II, Halo 3: ODST, Borderlands, Tekken 6, Left 4 Dead 2, Dante’s Inferno and Aliens vs. Predator. Expect an awful lot more to be announced as we get closer to the show.
Buy tickets here. PR after the break.

The year’s Game Media Awards head to Camden
MCV’s posted up details of this year’s Game Media Awards, to be held this year at the Jongleurs Comedy Club in Camden, London. The inaugural GMAs was held last year. From the site:
This time, the voting panel will be MCV’s entire readership. In other words, the UK video games industry. There will also be fewer awards in total – a move designed to ratchet up the prestige attached to each one.
The Games Media Awards are being backed by five Gold Sponsors: Microsoft, Nintendo, Activision, Codemasters and Electronic Arts. All recognise the importance of specialist, mainstream, print and digital media – and the value of rewarding the best in their particular field.
Categories are to be announced shortly, and voting will take place through August and September.

Alone in the Dark London event kicks off at 1.30pm BST
Atari’s holding the UK version of this week’s US Alone in the Dark event in London this afternoon, at the Everyman Cinema Club in Hampstead.
Phil Harrison’s going to be introducing the game, as he did in America, and we’ll be interviewing him after the presentation. There are loads of gamers here as opposed to press, so the Q&A should be fun.
Here’s the schedule:
- 1.30pm – Welcome note from Atari UK
- 1.35pm – Phil Harrison speech
- 1.45pm – Presentation of Alone in the Dark (The brand, the vision, the
game) by Nour Polloni (Producer) - 3pm – Open forum – Questions and answers
We’re pretty sure the content of all this is going to be exactly the same as the event in San Francisco on Monday, but we’ll bring it to you live nonetheless. There are plugs (woot) and the connection looks fine, so hopefully nothing’ll go wrong. Famous last words, obviously.
Keep checking back for updates and photos.

SCEE PlayStation Day kicks of at 4pm BST – all the news here
Keep your eyes open this afternoon, PlayStation fans, as SCEE will hold its 2008 PlayStation Day press conference at 4pm: it’s gearing up to be a whopper.
In the absence of E3, companies are now trending towards showing their end-of-year line-ups to the trade in April and May at their own events, and from what we’ve been told in private you can expect today’s reveals to be significant.
Details:
- 15.30 – Venue open
- 16:00 – Press conference
- 17:30 – Play time with games
We can’t tell you where it’s going to be held, but it’s a huge London venue and the guest list is described as “substantial”. We know a good portion of what’s going to be shown and all we can say is that it will be worth your while to keep watching for updates.
Kaz Hirai and European boss David Reeves will both be giving talks at the event, and there’s a heap of rumours circulating about what’s going to be shown. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that you’re about to hear pretty much everything about Sony’s 2008, so make sure you’re paying close attention at 4pm BST, when – God willing – we’ll be bringing you live updates from the venue.
It’ll probably just be Kaz talking about “brand equity”, a few PSPs and some warm beer, in reality. Don’t let us down, SCEE.

Kinect for Windows will be available in 2014
