Activision’s plastic-peripheral romp, Guitar hero: World Tour, will get a three song pack containing some tracks from the Killers latest album, Day & Age, on the day of its retail release on November 25.

Human and Losing Touch will be included from the new album, as well as the “smash hit single” Mr. Brightside from the band’s debut record.

The Killers Track Pack will cost 440 Microsoft Points and $5.49 on PSN. The songs will be available individually for 160 Points (360), $1.99 (PS3) and 200 Wii Points a piece.

Speaking in an earnings call following the release of third quarter financials yesterday, Activision said Guitar Hero World Tour had practically sold out and it didn’t anticipate being able to make enough kits to satisfy Christmas demand.

CEO Bobby Kotick said that Activision has “been surprised” by the response to the full band kit for Guitar Hero World Tour, with publishing boss Mike Griffith adding that the full band kit is “virtually sold out across the channel” and it’s “not likely that we’ll be able to keep up with demand [this holiday season].”

Overall, Griffith said that the entire Guitar Hero franchise has sold 24 million units to date, compared with 5 million units for MTV’s Rock Band.

Speaking in an earnings call after the release of third quarter financials yesterday, Activision boss Bobby Kotick said that the firm may start charging to access and uplod user-content in Guitar Hero World Tour.

“In just 10 days, our GH Tunes has attracted over 25,000 user-generated songs which means we’ll likely have up to 100,000 songs by the year end,” he said.

“These songs are easily downloaded by consumers and the ability to offer these songs on a subscription basis may very well result in the newest subscription opportunities in our portfolio.”

You go, Bobby.

Activision posted a Q3 loss yesterday on the back of increased sales.

According to this Eurogamer report, Guitar Hero World Tour “super bundles” will arrive on 360, PS3 and Wii on November 14 in Europe, consisting of all the instrments and the game.

The PS2 pack will be available on November 21.

“We’re delighted to confirm the release dates for all formats and bundles. Guitar Hero World Tour is the one of the most anticipated games launches this year so I’d recommend that everyone gets their orders in quick for the Christmas rush,” Activision’s David Tyler told MCV magazine.

“The free bass guitar controller offer running with all pre-orders has been exceptionally well received, and we can’t wait to see the reaction when the game hits the shelves.”

Look. We hate rhythm action games. But Activision’s Guitar Hero World Tour launch trailer made us want to play it. It’s got the Chilli’s drummer saying it’s “revitalising the music industry” and Sting wanking on about how great it is. It’s got Ted Nugent saying the word “spiritual”. It’s got it all.

Activision confirmed today that Jimi Hendrix and The Raconteurs’ tracks are on the way to Guitar Hero: World Tour.

Hendrix songs “If 6 was 9,” “Little Wing,” and a live version of “Fire” will be available for DLC for the game on November 13.

A Raconteurs DLC pack will contain “Salute Your Solution,” “Hold Up” and “Consoler of the Lonely” on November 20.

Oh dear. According to this Joystiq story, the PS3 version of Rock Band 2 doesn’t recognise Guitar Hero: World Tour’s drum set.

This may sound trifling. In fact, it is. Unfortunately, SCEA specifically promised instruments from the bigger rhythm action games would work with each other this year, citing the two titles as an actual example.

“A few specific examples include: Guitar Hero: World Tour’s guitars and drums will work with Rock Band 2 and Konami’s Rock Revolution software,” said SCEA’s Michael Shorrock in August, at the time of the feature’s announcement.

Harmonix is looking into it, apparently. As you do.

Watch for someone to confirm it does or doesn’t work with the 360 versions: Microsoft promised the same thing.

Why work for something you can have for nothing? There is no reason. Kotaku, thankfully, has posted the colour code you need to unlock all the tracks in Guitar Hero World Tour.

Wasting your time playing the frigging thing in the first place is bad enough, so you may as well cheat. Your heart only beats so many times, you know.

Activision’s announced that the seventh Oasis album, Dig Out Your Soul, will be made available through Guitar Hero World Tour in 2009.

Three singles from the record, ‘Bag it Up,’ ‘Waiting for the Rapture’ and ‘The Shock of the Lightning’ will release for the game this November.

In the wake of selling to Activision, FreeStyleGames boss Chris Lee has told VG247 that the English developer is currently working on a brand new IP for the publisher, and that the studio is to play a major role in the expansion of Guitar Hero throughout Europe.

“A big part of Activision’s growth strategy for [Guitar Hero] in Europe is to work with more local developers and to create more localized song content that resonates with the European market,” he said.

“Our studio will play a big part in that strategy. It’s been great fun to be able to work on this content and we continue to grow the team that’s working on this. We’re also working on an original intellectual property, which we’re very excited about and itching to say more about this when the time comes.”

FSG has already completed much Guitar Hero III DLC work for Activision, and is now focused on Guitar Hero World Tour, said the exec.

The move into Activision appears to have been a painless one: Lee confirmed there had been no job losses as a result.

“Yes,” he said when asked is all staff would remain employed.

“All current management have signed long terms contracts with FreeStyleGames. All the teams and projects continue as normal. Nothing will change within the studio, other than an increased support network within Activision and a little more financial muscle to continue our recruitment drive and deliver world class games.”

Over 500 Rock Band songs? Pfft, that’ll be small change compared to Guitar Hero: World Tour’s player-driven create-a-song feature, which will surely see covers of every lighter-waving, spark-streaming rock odyssey ever conceived, right? Wrong. In an interview with 1UP, GH:WT director Brian Bright woke GH-devotees from their dream of heading up gaming’s own Napster.

“We’ll be actively monitoring the site,” Bright explained. “And, obviously, if the copyright holder complains, Activision will pull it down immediately. We can’t condone people putting up covers of music. It’s really there for original content.”

But what if no one raises a ruckus? Tough luck.

“If there’s a licensed song and someone holds the copyright to it, we’ll take it down regardless of whether or not someone complains.”

Well, so much for that rock revolution. Our lawyers will be crushed, we’re sure.

According to this MCV story, Activision UK has announced “the biggest pre-order incentive the industry has ever seen” for November’s release of Guitar Hero World Tour.

Gamers who pre-order the ‘super bundle’ – containing the game, drum kit, guitar and microphone – will receive a free Guitar Hero bass guitar, which currently retails for approximately £50.

Activision’s put out the full list of tracks Guitar Hero World Tour will pack at the outset, showing 86 songs from Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Van Halen, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Michael Jackson and more.

Should twiddling a piece of plastic to rock music be your thing, you couldn’t hope for more.

This has been knocking around all day, by Acti-Bliz just press released it. Sting’s going to be in Guitar Hero World Tour. From the announcement:

In what will be the largest collection of artists ever to appear in a Guitar Hero game, singer-songwriter, actor, author, activist and lead singer/bassist of The Police, Sting will add his voice and likeness as an in-game character. Aspiring frontmen can take the stage as Sting throughout their vocal career or play alongside him as he performs one of The Police classics, “Demolition Man.”

According to this Gamespot story, Acti-Blizz has confirmed that Guitar Hero World Tour will ship in Australia on November 12.

The full banana’s going to cost the equivalent of £155. From the piece:

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 “super” bundle–which comes with a copy of the game, a drum kit, a mic, and a wireless guitar–will retail for A$329.95. The same Wii bundle comes in A$10 cheaper at A$319.95, while the PS2 version will set consumers back A$299.95.

Guitar Hero World Tour’s guitar bundle–which comes with one guitar and the software–will be A$169.95 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, A$159.95 for the Wii, and A$149.95 for the PS2. The game on its own will sell for A$89.95 for the PS3 and 360, A$79.95 for the Wii, and A$69.95 for the PS2 version. Activision has previously stated that Guitar Hero 3 controllers will be compatible with World Tour.

Still waiting on solid details for the game’s release in Europe.

The Smashing Pumpkins are debut new single G.L.O.W. as part of a song-pack on Guitar Hero World Tour.

Apparently, “This marks the first time a band has recorded a new song exclusively for the franchise which will be released afterwards, giving Guitar Hero® fans exclusive access to Smashing Pumpkins music before anyone else.”

Activision’s announced a ton of in-game music gear deals for Guitar Hero World Tour, allowing players to get sponsorship action with Ampeg, Audio-Technica, EMG Pickups, Ernie Ball, Evans Drumheads, Guitar Center, Krank Amplification, Mackie, Marshall, Orange County Drum & Percussion, Pork Pie Percussion, Regal Tip, Sabian cymbals, Vox and Zildjian drumsticks.

We, of course, know all these companies intimately, seeing as how we’re so down the the kids, bro. We have, in fact, heard of none of them. Apart from Marshall. Still.

Red Octane has announced in the company’s Games Convention press conference at Leipzig that the Wii version of Gutar Hero World Tour will feature a Wii-specific game mode called Mii Freestyle.

There isn’t much to say about it other that you will use the mote and nunchuck to either play ‘air drums’ or the guitar.

Red Octane has just announced during the Activision Blizzard Games Convention press conference that Guitar Hero World Tour will songs available for download relating to what European country you live in.

The countries listed so far are:

• Holland
• Germany
• France
• Sweden
• Italy
• UK
• Spain

Of course, there will be tracks that all of us can enjoy and these country specific titles will only serve as extras to the main song package.

So there you go. European specific support at last.
