MP for Newcastle Upon Tyne Chi Onwurah has called for reflection among the UK games industry on the issue of gender equality in issues such as employment, skills and more. The MP called the imbalance of women working in information and communications technology roles – including the games industry – an “absolute scandal”, and called on the industry to provoke real change.

Danny Bilson, former executive VP for core games at THQ, will provide the closing keynote during GameHorizon and it’s titled “Building IP in the Digital World.” Other speakers confirmed for the event include Will Wright, Ubisoft Reflections, Fireproof Studios, and Paradox among others. GameHorizon takes place in Newcastle, May 8-9. Thanks, GI International.

Annual convention GameHorizon has signed up Bossa Studios, Epic Games, GameStick, Paradox Interactive and Ubisoft. GamesIndustry reports Ubisoft Reflections managing director Pauline Jacquey will give the opening keynote, and Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester will give a session on niche gaming. The event is sponsored by CCP and Epic Games among others; it takes place at The Sage in Newcastle on May 8 and 9, and many events will be livestreamed.

GamesIndustry International has acquired the GameHorizon conference and business network, and is set to reveal details of the 2013 event soon.
