Doodle Jump, the simple mobile classic that has claimed more hours of our time than we’d like to admit, has leapt over to Nintendo’s family of handheld devices.

Doodle Jump, Lima Sky’s best-selling mobile game, is heading to 3DS and DS courtesy of GameMill Publishing. Developed for the handhelds by Smoking Gun Interactive, two versions will be out later this year: Doodle Jump Adventures hitting on 3DS and Doodle Jump Journey DS. Doodle Jump Adventures introduce a brand new Adventure mode, featuring 48 levels, power-ups and boss battles as well as the Endless Mode included in the original. Doodle Jump Journey features the franchise’s three original themes – Classic, Jungle, and Space in Endless Mode. No release date just yet, just “later this year.”

To celebrate the fifth birthday of its App Store, Apple has disclosed a list of its best-selling iOS game and app releases to date. There are no prizes for guessing which game currently rules the roost. Apple is also giving away a selection free games from today.

Much loved mobile effort Doodle Jump is four years old this week, and to celebrate, Lima Sky is offering it free for one day on both iPad and Android; the Android version is a new version with a graphical upgrade and performance improvements. More than 5 billion games of Doodle Jump have been played since launch, sending the protagonist far enough to travel back and forth between the Earth and Sun six times. It’s the number three top paid app of all time on the App Store, and a Kinect version is due in the next few months.

Doodle Jump developer Lima Sky has decided to stop issuing “trademark warnings” to App Store developers who use “doodle” in the title of their games.
