VentureBeat acquires Bitmob, Dan “Shoe” Hsu named GamesBeat editor-in-chief
VentureBeat has acquired Bitmob, and its founder, as well as former Ziff Davis Media editorial director, Dan “Shoe” Hsu, has been brought on as GamesBeat’s editor-in-chief. Ben Popper, one of the founding editors of The New York Observer’s Silicon Alley blog, Betabeat, was also hired on as VentureBeat’s east coast editor. VB’s goal with the acquisition and high-profile recruitment is to expand its games channel, with Hsu overseeing the changes. Dean Takahashi, lead writer for GamesBeat, and Sebastian Haley, review editor and executive video producer, will report to directly to Hsu. Thanks, IndustryGamers.

Hsu and Linn to helm new EGM

Dan Hsu and Demian Linn now back on board at the soon-to-return EGM, as you can see from this press release.
The pair, which worked at the mag for many years before it was closed in January, have launched Bitmob in the meantime. They’ll continue to run the site, apparently.
“I am thrilled to see Dan and Demian on board the new EGM,” said publisher Steve Harris.
“Both of these journalists have a keen understanding of the industry they report on, and that exceptional insight is something I know readers will value.”
No date on when the relaunch issue’s to actually appear, however.

Dan Hsu announces new site, BitMob

Former EGM editor Dan Hsu’s confirmed his new project is a website called BitMob.
There’s nothing to look at there as yet, but Hsu’s assured the site will launch “soon”.
“Assuming tech, design, God, and karma all cooperate with us, our scaled-down prototype alpha site should be live in less than two weeks,” he said in a blog post.
Thanks, 1UP.
