SEGA has released a new video for Yakuza: Dead Souls featuring playable characters Goro Majima and Ryuji Goda. Apparently, Majima is so mad about zombies, he picks fights with them just for the fun of it. Goda, on the other hand, has a prosthetic arm which can transform into a gatling gun. Interesting. Dead Souls, known as Yakuza: Of the End in Japan, will be released in March on PS3, and other playable characters include Shun Akiyama and Kazuma Kiryu. Check out the video of each in action below.

Yakuza: Of the End is a game about Japanese mafia zombies. Crazy? Brilliant? Both? We have no idea. But – seeing as that description probably secretes some sort of pheromone-based Western exec repellent – we weren’t exactly hopeful that we’d ever get to find out. Show’s what we know, though, because the apparent result of a genre-based Mad Libs match looks to be expanding its criminal empire to this side of the pond. According to a European trademark dug up by Joystiq, something called Yakuza: Dead Souls is on the way. Odds are, it’s either a shiny new name for Of the End or a Dark Souls crossover. Which – come to think of it – sounds incredible.

Ok, we’re pretty sure he’s joking about that bit. But whether or not the series trades its hordes of puking zombies for arguably more horrifying hordes of drooling children, Yakuza producer Masayoshi Kikuchi made one point explicitly clear:
“We want to spread the Yakuza franchise into different genres,” he stated.

It’s not April. Our little totem thing isn’t spinning for eternity, so we’re not dreaming. We still don’t understand the appeal of Glenn Beck, so we’re not insane.
Yep. This is happening.
