Saints Row 2 gets US PC release, Europe end of the month
THQs excellent open-world romp, Saints Row 2, was released for PC across the US today, retailing at $39.99.
The game is expected to ship to retail outlets in Europe on January 23, 2009 and Australia on February 5, 2009.
“Saints Row 2′s console release was met with heavy praise from press and consumers alike for delivering the kind of over-the-top, open-world gameplay gamers want,” said Kevin Kraff, THQ vice president, global brand management.
“Saints Row 2′s debut on Windows PC will introduce the truly unique, highly entertaining open-world experience to PC fans worldwide.”
THQ delayed the PC release back in October last year just before announcing that the console versions of Saints Row 2 had shipped 2 million units.

Saints Row 2 PC delayed till 2009
According to this IGN piece, the PC version of Saints Row 2 won’t be with us until early next year.
The news originally came from a forum post, apparently, but the site’s verified the game won’t ship until January 5, 2009.
Go buy one of the console versions instead. It’s brilliant, apparently.

Saints Row 3 confirmed, “new direction” touted
Volition’s confirmed that work’s already started on Saints Row 3 in an interview with Play. Not only that: the game will take a “new direction” from the first two, apparently.
From the piece:
The last game had a very ‘open’ ending. Can we expect something similar with SR2?
Associate producer Dan Sutton: Well, we knew a lot of people were upset with the last one because they were playing it and it was like “oh gosh, I’ve got to wait for the next one”, but in SR2 we tie-up a lot of loose ends. I think we tie it up deliberately. We’ve already started work on Saints Row 3, and we have a new direction we want to go in with that which we of course can’t talk about. We wrap up a lot in this one. There’s no frustration.
So… Saints Row 3 will take a very new direction?
I think so, yes.
So there we are. In the meantime, can we have a copy of the second one please, THQ PR?

Saints Row 2: Finishing moves add visual flourish
In an interview with Gamezone, Saints Row 2 lead designer, James Tsai, has said that after you’ve repeatedly smashed your opponents face in with your bare fists, finishing moves add a “nice visual flourish” to the exercise.
“We have several melee fighting styles the player can use throughout the game, each of which has its own set of combos and finishers,” said Tsai.
“Aside from adding that nice visual flourish to finishing off opponents after a flurry of strikes, the finishing moves and counters are used heavily in our fight club activity, as well as some cool sword fighting boss battles.
“You’ll have to time and counter attacks and follow up with strikes of your own rather than just pummel away,” he added.
Volition’s Saints Row 2 is out now, and if you haven’t already read a review, look here and you’ll see that it hasn’t done badly so far.

NYPD union chief says Saints Row 2 encourages depravity
Speaking with newspaper the Daily News of New York, NYPD union boss Patrick Lynch has said that Saints Row 2 encourages depravity and a whole host of other unsightly adjectives amongst the yoof of today, Ripten reports.
“Horrible and violent video games desensitize young people to violence while encouraging depravity, immorality while glorifying criminal behavior,” said Lynch.
So if being a desensitised, violent zombie sounds like fun then you can get in training as early as Friday, when THQs excellent-looking sandbox title goes on sale.

Come on, Tesco. You can do better than this. The retailer has sent out another email to customers who bought a copy of Saints Row 2 for £16 from its website yesterday, only to be later told the firm had “not been able to obtain an item in your order”. This was shortly after the price went back up to £40.
Tesco’s first email said, “We apologise”. This one says, “We sincerely apologise”. Maybe the third one will say, “We’ll give you the product we advertised at the price we advertised it at.”
Nah. Course not. Thanks, ecu.
Thank you for your recent order for the Saints 2 Row PS3 game from Tesco.com.
Unfortunately, there was an error in the price at the time that you placed your order, and as a result we have had to cancel your order. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions on the Tesco.com entertainment site for further details of our acceptance policy.

Looks as though Tesco isn’t as stupid as it’s cabbage-looking. The retailer was listing the PS3 version of Saints Row 2 for £15.97 this morning, but has now put the price up to £39.97.
Should have been faster. If you did buy one and you get an email from Tesco saying it was an error, let us know?

Saints Row 2 gets launch trailer
After the break. The movie outlines the game’s plot and includes the line, “These guys are packing space age shit,” which pretty much works for us.
Have a nose. It’s out later this month.

Saints Row 2 soundtrack announced, is massive, has Final Countdown
THQ just sent word that the Saints Row 2 soundtrack’s been announced, and there are more tunes on it than there are leaves on a tree. That’s a lot.
Here. Looking at it, there really is an awful lot of “classic” stuff on there, including The Final Countdown by Europe. Can’t say fairer than that. Props to the Volition massive.

First Saints Row 2 review is an 8/10

The game’s out for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on October 17.

New Saints Row 2 movie shows acting, quality
Want it. Please don’t be shit. There’s a video after the break of Saints Row 2′s actors talking about their VO roles on the game, and as far as we’re concerned this is starting to shape up to be a real contender. There’s nothing else like this in the final quarter and the humour, top hole cast, full-game co-op and absolute nonsense are all adding up to a potential winner.
Off the record word says it’s fantastic to play, so keep those eyes open. Game’s out on October 17 for PC, PS3 and 360.

Eurogamer Expo to show PoP, Mirror’s Edge, LBP, Tomb Raider Underworld, Far Cry 2 and more
Eurogamer Network just confirmed that the first Eurogamer Expo will take place on October 28-29 at the Old Truman Brewery in London and will feature many of the season’s biggest hitters.
Confirmed for the event are “Street Fighter IV, Prince of Persia, Mirror’s Edge, LittleBigPlanet, Tomb Raider: Underworld, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, Saints Row 2 and many more.”
“Gamers have been crying out for a credible gaming event for years and publishers haven’t had anywhere to show off their biggest games at the most important time of the year. We’re delighted to bring them together under the Eurogamer Expo banner,” said Eurogamer boss Rupert Loman.
The ticketing sounds a bit “different”. According to the announcement, “To guarantee a ticket for the Eurogamer Expo, gamers should make a £5 donation to UK videogames charity GamesAid. More details on how to register interest are available on the official website, and the event will be split into 11am-4pm and 5pm-10pm sessions on both 28th and 29th October.”
The show’s site’s here. Press release after the link.

Actor Gary Busey does Saints Row ads
THQ has got actor Gary Busey – probably best known for his role as FBI Agent Angelo Pappas in the all-male, sweaty, surfy, hardcore action movie, Point Break – to do a few ads promoting the upcoming, free-roaming and very violent game, Saints Row.
THQ has recently announced porn star Tera Patrick‘s involved with the title, so seeing Busey’s face in comparison will be a harsh return to reality for some of you.
Anyway, watch the ads after the break.
