GRID rank reset “fairest solution,” says Codemasters

grid2.jpg

Codemasters has responded to a complaint this morning that all ranks and lap times for Race Driver: GRID have been reset by the firm, saying that, like nuking from orbit, it was the only way to be sure.

“Given the number of reports we’ve had of people abusing the ranking system to get unfair ranks, it was only fair that we did a reset,” said Codies racing boss Rich Tysoe on the company’s forums.

“It’s never an easy decision to make, and we’d rather it hadn’t come to this, but changes in the patch should make gaining those ranking points back fairer. We’d like to think that people play online for the fun of it, not so much the amassing of points, but if you find yourself in this sort of situation, it’s the fairest solution.”

Case closed.

GRID rank reset draws racer ire

As you can see from this post on the Codemasters forums, the firms decision to reset Race Driver: GRID users’ ranks as well as leaderboard times with a recent patch isn’t going down well with some.

Apparently there’s been some cheating going on, which may account for the decision, but for one gamer at least, his honest hard work to in reaching the top rank of Elite has now been wiped out.

“I think we’re all Entitled to an explanation from CM,” said gamer Osan-gar. “I don’t expect there to be another patch/ update; I suppose it possible, but not plausible. Regardless, we should be told what [happened]. If this was an unintentional result of the patch, then I’d say Codemasters needs to consider a name change. If was INTENTIONAL… Well, I’ll probably continue to be a fan of the game, and subsequent releases, (it IS a great game) but I’ll be waiting on USED copies dropping to around $20 before I buy a follow-up/ sequel. The pre- and post-patch issues are NOT encouraging me to support Codemasters with a new game purchase.”

We’ll drop Codemasters a line about this when the office opens.

“We have pursued options in the market for some time and this announcement is but a first indication of our ambitions in that market.”

GRID 360 experiencing lock-ups, patch promised

grid6.jpg

According to this thread on the Codemasters forum, the 360 version of Race Driver GRID is showing some technical hitches for some users, namely freezing.

Dev head Gavin Raeburn has admitted there’s an issue and has promised a patch in the near future.

“We’re close to getting to the root of the problem and we will be including a fix and a backup workaround option (just in case) in our forthcoming patch due within the next few weeks or sooner,” he said. “We think the issue is due to specific drive hardware, possibly with bad blocks/sectors.

“The best temporary measure is to copy your gamertag to a mem card, remove the hard drive and run the game that way. Replays and caching will be disabled, though instant replay will still work as this caches to memory.

“I hope this helps in the short term.”

Thanks, Gamer.tm.

Console versions of GRID still on track as DS SKU is delayed

Codemasters confirmed this morning that the DS version of Race Driver GRID has been pushed into June, but that the release of the PC, PS3 and 360 versions is unaffected.

“Oh no, they’re still bang on for next Friday,” said a spokesperson for the publisher.

Codemasters delayed the DS version last week when it spoke about the multiplayer aspects of the other outings, and has yet to give a specific new date for the title.

“Officially we’ve just said June, but that sounds about right.” said the rep when we asked if Wiiz.fr’s June 19 was correct.

Gametrailers: GRID video blunder was a “mistake”

Speaking to Joystiq, GameTrailers’ EIC, Shane Satterfield, has gone on the record to say that the borked comparison video that compared PS3 footage to PS3 footage – while claiming one was the 360 game – was a simple error.

“It was a mistake in our post-production process,” he said. “After we captured the footage from both versions, some of the footage of the PlayStation 3 version of the game was incorrectly placed in the bin for the Xbox 360 footage. Our video editor on this particular project is not a games person and completely overlooked the fact that he had the wrong footage in the wrong place.”

As we said at the time, shit happens. More through the link.
