Overlord Wii passes Nintendo cert

Nintendo Europe’s passed Overlord Dark Legend for release.
“The production phase of the game is now over,” producer Dean Scott told Eurogamer.
“But what we have done is receive confirmation from Nintendo of Europe that the game is all approved. So yeah, the big news this week is that we’re allowed to release it.
“That’s the most exciting thing for us. Sorry it’s not something about tits.”
It’s out on June 26.

Overlord Dark Legend gets new trailer, looks cool

Overlord Dark Legend – “the Wii one” – got a new trailer today, as you can see on the official site.
We’re probably going to have to stop saying, “It looks good for a Wii game” soon. That’s two in one day.
It’s out on June 26.

Overlord: Dark Legend will be a “hardcore” Wii title

Wii owners who fancy the thought of ordering minions to set fire to things, slaughter sheep and cause evil mayhem wherever they go are going to be in luck when Overlord: Dark Legend arrives this June: it’s for the core, apparently.
Over the weekend at Comic Con, MTV Multiplayer spoke with Codematers’ brand manager Dan Robinson, who said that the Wii exclusive would be more of a hardcore game for the console.
“A lot of Nintendo fans are after a game like this on Nintendo. I think they’ve seen enough big-headed sports games and mini game collections for the Wii,” he said.
“Nintendo fanboys tend to be quite loyal to Nintendo, so the people who are playing Metroid Prime and Zelda and Mario, they’re kind of after a game like this that does more for them than picking up a Wii and just doing that action [flicks hand side-to-side] all the time.”
The casual crowd will not be left out of the equation either though, because according to Robinson consumers new to gaming will enjoy the interaction just as well:
“There are elements of it that are still fun [for casual players] and you can still get involved with it. But I think it’s definitely more of a hardcore game than you’ve got on the Wii at the moment.
“The other thing that the Wii’s done is opened a market for the people who perhaps weren’t into gaming before. So people who were bit scared because [gaming] was a bit too technical and a bit too geeky have suddenly been brought in because of the Wii. And I think this gives us an opportunity to show them that the Wii can actually do games like this, and it actually works and it can make good fun. So there are two distinct groups there that we’re going for.”
Good for Nintendo fans. Bad for sheep.

New Overlord: Dark Legend screenshots
Over at IGN. Looks very much like the first one, which isn’t a bad thing at all as we rather liked that, if we’re being honest. Be interesting to see how a Wii version shapes up.
Overlord: Dark Legend is out for Wii 2009.
It’s screenshot Friday!

Overlord Dark Legend for Wii: first shots and details
IGN posted up first screens and details of a Wii version of Codemasters’ Overlord overnight, the game being called Overlord Dark Legend.
It’s not out until next year. From the piece:
Dark Legend will feature an original tongue-in-cheek storyline penned by award-winning games author Rhianna Pratchett, and is set to include a host of old and new franchise-favorite characters, including Halflings, trolls, elves and dwarves, as well as new wicked witches, gingerbread men, and Lil’ Red Riding Hood, “the seeming sweet girl with a very personal lupine secret.”
Loads more through there.
