Tokyo Game Show 2009′s recorded a dip in attendance compared to last year, drop from 194,288 in 2008 to 185,030 last week.

The show played host to some major announcements from Sony in particular, with GT5′s date being confirmed at the event and big-ticket titles such as LittleBigPlanet and Resident Evil 5 being screened using PS3′s upcoming motion controller.

Next year’s show will start on either September 16 or 17, according to Andriasang. Whether or not TGS 2010 will be a three or four-day affair hasn’t been decided as yet.

Thanks, GoNintendo.

“GAME time” theme announced for TGS 2008

According to this press release, the theme for this year’s Tokyo Game Show is, “Ready for GAME Time!” The show will run from October 9-12 at the Makuhari Messe.

New stuff for this year includes:

1) New exhibition areas to ensure full coverage of all form of entertainment, 2) improved environment for doing business and international participation, and 3) promotions targeting light users (kids, families) and new users. We hope that these efforts will meet the expectations of our participants from business and the general public and succeed in making this a truly world-class event.

There’s also a claim in there that TGS is the biggest games show in the world, with 193,040 attendees in 2007. Games Convention’s site claims that GC2007 saw 192,300 people through the door of the German show. We think someone somewhere may be telling a little porky pie…
