GAME has cancelled GAMEfest 2012, the retailer confirmed today. However, the chain said it has some “cool things in the works,” and GAMEfest may return in 2013. Thanks, MCV.

Tickets for the specialist retailer’s gaming show at the NEC in Birmingham are selling out, with Saturday the first of the three-day event to reach capacity status. Dilly-dally no more if you’re planning on going.

GAME’s announced that Modern Warfare 3 will be at GAMEFest next month in Birmingham, with the appearance of the Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer shooter being the first in the UK. The public will also be able to go hands-on with the game at the show. GAMEFest happens from September 16-18 in the NEC Arena, ahead of Eurogamer Expo on September 22-25 in London. MW3′s out on November 8.

Some publishers in Europe have admitted to being a bit miffed over GAME deciding to expand it’s annual store managers’ conference into a full-blown consumer show in Birmingham, especially since it ends just a few days before the Eurogamer Expo starts at London’s Earl’s Court.

Microsoft has moved Gamefest, the company’s annual game developers conference, to the first quarter of 2010, writes Gama.
Apparently, several attending development houses had contacted Microsoft requesting the move due to it’s usual summer slot proving inconvenient this year.
“Gamefest … should revolve around game developers,” said the official site. “We sought out feedback from developers who attended Gamefest 2008 and we found that, given development schedules and ship dates, the conference would be more convenient if held at a different time in the calendar year.”
Gamefest is the devlopment conference formerly known as Xfest and is based in Seattle.
