EA’s Asian revenue is “nowhere” near desired level, says exec
EA Asia boss Jon Niermann has admitted that revenue for the publisher in the region is lower than target, but has pointed to a heavy release schedule of online game to boost funds.
“It’s nowhere where it needs to be. We need to get that growth significantly higher,” Niermann told the AP.
Asian revenues account for 6 percent of EA’s overall tally, the exec said.
Niermann said EA hopes to increase its market share in Asia by launching more online games, with 12 editions of different games expected to roll out this year.
EA has already launched online versions of FIFA, NBA Street and WAR in the region, with Battlefield Heroes to follow. The online version of Need for Speed, which was developed in Singapore, will launch next year.

Seabass: EA’s FIFA engine is “really superb”
Speaking to CVG, PES dev boss Shingo ‘Seabass’ Takatsuka has said that not only does he consider the FIFA engine to be “really superb,” but he’d consider using it for the Konami soccer stalwart, given half the chance.
“I would think about it really seriously because I still believe that EA’s engine and animation is really superb, very good,” he said.
“The modelling of the characters is perhaps not really to my taste actually, so I might not take that part, but seriously, I think their engine and their motion style is really great.”

Rock band 2 to debut at Games Convention full EA line-up confirmed
EA has announced its Games Convention line-up revealing that Harmonix’s Rock Band 2 will be shown for the first time.
EA reckons it’s “best ever product line up for European consumers this holiday and in 2009″ and as we’ll be able to confirm that for you when our full coverage gets under way tomorrow.
From the release:
On show in Leipzig are Europe’s best selling franchises and consumer favorites like FIFA, Need For Speed, The Sims and Harry Potter, a wide range of casual and family titles for Nintendo platforms including LITTLEST PET SHOP, Boogie SuperStar, Zubo and MONOPOLY, brand new IP like SimAnimals, Mirror’s Edge, Dead Space, Dragon Age: Origins, Battleforge, Spore, the new MMORPG Warhammer® Online: Age of Reckoning, and EA partner titles Left 4 Dead from Valve, Rock Band and Rock Band 2 from MTV Games/Harmonix and Crysis Warhead® from Crytek.
Never before has EA had such a diverse and powerful slate of offerings, and it’s been great to see consumer and critical response to our games,” said Jens Uwe Intat, senior EA VP.
“As more and more people come into interactive entertainment, we are ready with the best games in sports, action, casual, horror, simulation, and online. We’ll be bringing more new games to market this year than in our history, and Leipzig is a great European window to showcase those offerings for the broad range of people that love to play them.”

No UEFA Euro 2008 for Wii or DS
So says this. The upcoming EA football game was announced yesterday, but EG’s just confirmed with EA that Nintendo platforms aren’t going to get a look-in. No reason’s been given for the decision, which seem a little off considering a decent FIFA version came out last year. Them’s the breaks.
