New Zelda game will “improve upon” Twilight Princess, says Aonuma

zeldatp

Eiji Aonuma has told IGN that while Twilight Princess didn’t live up to the public’s expectations and its potential, the next iteration of the series on Wii will, thanks to what the team learned through creating the game.

“With Twilight, we challenged ourselves to create the most vast and realistic world the series had ever seen,” said Aonum, “but we don’t feel we were able to fully complete this objective. With that as a starting point for our improvements to the series in the future, we are of course working on a new game for Wii.

“For any game to be remembered for a long time, just like Ocarina of Time was, the game must give the strong impression that it has set a new starting point for future sequels to build upon. We are working to further improve upon the experiences found in Twilight Princess so that our future games can realize these innovations.”

We’re keeping our fingers crossed.

Iwata: Majora’s Mask was a “turning point” for Nintendo

majorasmask

Nintendo bossman Satoru Iwata has said that N64′s Majora’s Mask was a “turning point” for Nintendo, giving the company a “glimpse” of compact gameplay of the future.

“The ‘Three-Day System’, the idea of a compact world to be played over and over again, came down from Miyamoto-san and one other director, (Yoshiaki) Koizumi-san,” explained Zelda’s Eiji Aonuma in the latest edition of Iwata Asks. “We added that to the mix, and then, finally, we saw the full substance of a The Legend of Zelda game we could make in one year.”

“Actually, I feel as though, back then, we were given a glimpse of the concept that ‘Deep, compact play is one form of the games of the future’,” added Iwata. “I think in that sense, as a product, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask was a big turning point for Nintendo.”

Those who are not lucky enough to still own a N64 system can get the game via the Virtual Console.

Aonuma refuses to rule out using “other forms” of technology in future Zelda games

zelda

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has told Kotaku that he will consider using “other forms in technology” in future Zelda games, after the inclusion of a train in The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.

He said: “Regarding use of other forms in technology in the future, as long it adds to the overall game experience and is something we feel the player would enjoy, we wouldn’t be afraid to implement it. As a matter of fact, we have used the Hook Shot in several previous games, which would be considered a very modern type of technology, even by today’s standards.”

Just dont go expecting iPhones or Blackberrys with access to Google Wave in a future Zelda.

Link may fly in new Zelda for Wii

link

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma hinted to the Guardian that our hero Link might fly around a bit in the new Zelda game for Wii.

“I have an eight-year-old son myself at home, and quite recently he started playing The Phantom Hourglass for DS, because when the software first hit the market he was too young,” he said.

“When he started playing with the boat, I told him: ‘In the next Zelda, you are going to be able to ride on the train.’ He answered: ‘OK, Dad, first boat, and then train? Surely next time, Link is going to fly in the sky … ‘

“I just don’t know. If many people make many speculations … some of them might be correct. Right now, I have to refrain from commenting on anything.”

Aonuma: Ocarina of Time is “not that good”

zeldaartmain

Pitchforks and shotguns at dawn! Get them out!

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has revealed in an recent interview, translated by GAF, he reckons that the infamous Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is “not that good.”

Buuurn.

If you play Ocarina of Time nowadays, you notice that it’s not that good,” said Aonuma.

Again, burn.

It’s complicated. Past things belong to our memories, and they grow bigger in there.

“Sometimes it doesn’t move as fast as it should, graphics aren’t as beautiful as they should be; there are some confusing parts… any present Zelda is technically superior. Everything goes faster, more fluid.”

Thanks, CVG.

Aonuma: We want to give Zelda fans a “fresh surprise”

zelda

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has said in an interview that he wants to give Zelda fans a “fresh surprise” in the new game in the series for the Wii, but only if they don’t follow the “same structure again and again.”

It is something we used to talk about with Mr Miyamoto, and he and I agree that if we are following the same structure again and again, we might not be able to give long time Zelda fans a fresh surprise,” said Aonuma.

So we have been trying something new in terms of the structure of the Wii version of the new Zelda game this time. I am really hopeful that people will be surprised with the changes we have implemented for this Wii version.”

We don’t know anything about the game other then this, this and the fact it’s being aimed for a E3 2010 reveal.

Thanks, PALGN.

Aonuma won’t quit Zelda till he’s beaten Ocarina

zeldaa.jpg

Speaking to Nintendo Power, Legend of Zelda director Eiji Aonuma has said that he’s sticking with the series until he can get it back to the quality of Ocarina of Time.

“I’m happy that a title I worked on some time ago remains highly praised to this day, but that also shows how none of the subsequent games in the series have surpassed it,” he said.

“As someone who is still working on the series, I have mixed feelings about that. Because I haven’t yet surpassed it, I can’t quit. Surprisingly, that simply motivation may be the reason I continue to work on the Zelda series.”

Take a break, Eiji. Have a cup of tea, or something.
