The increasingly popular Unity engine is headed to BlackBerry 10, the smartphone developer’s latest OS and the heart of upcoming PlayBook tablets. BlackBerry 10 support will be an optional add-on for Unity’s development kit, and is currently under development with a beta expected in northern spring ahead of a summer release. Unity has over 1.5 million developers on board its ultra-portable engine, and BlackBerry acknowledge the importance of making games available in order to drive mobile hardware sales.

Video game industry veterans Gareth and Martin Edmondson have struck a deal that will enable their mobile games company, Thumbstar, to distribute games in China, whilst protecting IP copyright.

RIM is set to make a heavier games presence for BlackBerry devices. The company’s head of gaming Anders Jeppsson tweeted from BlackBerry World big titles that are set to arrive to PlayBook and Blackberry 10, including Sonic 4: Episode 1, Jetpack Joyride, the just-released Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and more.

BlackBerry fan-site Crackberry.com has unearthed an Xbox Live app for the personal organiser called XBerry.
“Xberry will work for BlackBerry smartphones running OS version 4.2.1 and up and it is available on 81xx, 83xx, 87xx, 88xx, and 9000!” says the article.
Xberry allows you to add and remove friends, send messages, see who’s playing what, etc. All very smart indeed, we think.
