Zynga wants to be "a lot like Xbox Live"

CEO Mark Pincus has said Zynga intends its web portal to be the Xbox Live of social games.

"We think we’ve built the best hosting for social games and deep analytics," Pincus said of Zynga.com at an All Things D event.

"You can make your network available to companies through APIs, and we are in the early stages of doing that. We would be more than a games distributor.

"We need more aggregated channels, we need more ways for people to find and discover new apps, and find their way back to the apps.

"We want to be a game network, a lot like Xbox Live."

Pincus was asked whether Zynga would ever move into the console or hardware markets, and replied with a flat no.

Zynga.com supports third-party games in addition to letting players access Zynga's games from outside Facebook.
