Zero Time Dilemma will arrive in Europe and North America in June, Aksys Games announced this week at GDC 2016.
The third entry in the Zero Escape series was announced for the west in November 2015 for 3DS, PC and Vita. The publisher said at the time digital and physical versions would be released for handhelds in North America. It will be a digital only title in Europe.
Zero Time Dilemma is the final entry in the series and takes place on Mars with the story set between 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and Virtue's Last Reward. Fans of the previous games will notice the visual novel portions have been replaces by cinematics.
Players will be tasked with playing a life or death puzzle game against other characters. The moral conundrum: each character must be killed off in order to gain clues which the main character will use to escape imprisonment. One such instance in the game, according to Game Informer which attended the GDC panel, finds the main character playing a game of Russian Roulette.
Due to the games varying paths and randomized outcomes, reloading the game could change the current state of events as was noted in the Russian Roulette demonstration.
Here's the synopsis from the November announcement:
"Series mastermind Kotaro Uchikoshi has pulled out all the stops to deliver the most compelling and mind shredding gaming experience ever seen on a handheld platform. Choice is your only method of salvation and your only means of escape. How much of your humanity will you sacrifice to earn your freedom?
"As a new age of ruin looms large on the horizon, you must make impossible decisions and weather unimaginable consequences as you straddle the line between absolution and damnation. Plan your escape."
Zero Time Dilemma will release in both Europe and North America on June 28 for 3DS and Vita. The Steam release will follow shortly.
