You can watch the first teaser trailer for Netflix's Castlevania here

Castlevania is coming to Netflix by way of super fans and the Adventure Time team. Let's see how that worked out.

Castlevania will debut on Netflix on July 7, the network has announced, providing a first glimpse at the animated series with the teaser trailer above.

The animated series was announced in February, paying off a long trailer of comments and hints about a "super violent" Castlevania series. The little snippets we see here certainly don't rule out anything we'd heard about the project.

The teaser has an anime look to it, which is fair enough given Castlevania's Japanese origins - but the style and of course the subject matter also put me in mind of the two Vampire Hunter D anime films to date. That's not a bad thing at all; I love that franchise.

It's certainly a different look to Adventure Time and Bravest Warriors, two of the best-known projects from animation studio Frederator. If you had any worries that Castlevania would be sunshine and fluffy cloud and flowers, put them to bed (and also watch moe of Frederator's work; even if it's family friendly, s**t gets dark).

Unless it's particularly, awful, the series will be welcome to Castlevania fans. Konami seems to have largely forgotten Castlevania beyond pachinko machines, and we're not expecting a follow up to Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 after all the trouble at MercuryStream and its lukewarm reception.

Unfortunately we'll all have to wait until July to find out more about Netflix's interpretation of the Castlevania lore and the latest incarnation of "the man who killed Dracula".
