Yoshida saddened by Insomniac's multi-platform move

SCE Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has told Develop he was "sad" when he first heard of Insomniac Games' plans to go multi-platform.

The developer was a second-party PlayStation exclusive studio for its entire history, but announced back in May it had entered into a deal with EA Partners for a new IP on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Sony had said at the time of the announcement it would "continue to build upon a strong, successful partnership" with the dev.

Yoshida admitted, though, that Insomniac was "very open about their need to grow and their intention."

"They want to reach the people they haven’t been able to," he said, "so it was sad to hear a couple of years ago what their intent was, but as we are growing, Insomniac is growing too."

He added: "When you think about it, Insomniac is making multi-platform games. So PS3 owners should be happy because they are getting more Insomniac games as the studio hires more staff to develop more games."

No exact details have been given either on the new IP or ongoing Insomniac work for Sony, but it seems likely that would be Resistance 3.

EA announced yesterday that its gamescom press conference will take place on August 17, so an announcement in Cologne next month is a good bet.
