Yooka-Laylee's Switch troubles are rooted in Unity engine

Yooka-Laylee hasn't launched for Nintendo Switch because Playtonic was waiting on a new Unity release.

On a critical level, Yooka-Laylee's review scores were all over the place, but you can't deny it's a faithful recreation of Banjo-Kazooie's classic platformer gameplay. That being said, we have no idea how Yooka-Laylee plays on Nintendo Switch because fans are still awaiting its launch. In a new Kickstarter update, developer Playtonic explained this is because of technical hurdles within the new version of the Unity engine.

"The Playtonic team has been working tirelessly to bring Yooka-Laylee to Nintendo Switch and we're very nearly there (we promise!)," Playtonic wrote. "However, we've encountered some final technical hurdles and had been waiting for the arrival of Unity 5.6 in order to fix them. Although this has now been released, it has unfortunately introduced other issues which we are working with Unity to resolve before we can submit to Nintendo and lock in our release timeline."

The good news is Playtonic is quite close to sharing a release date - and even featured brief footage of someone playing the Switch version on its Kickstarter page. In the meantime, you can still pick up Yooka-Laylee for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
