Yakuza 3 confirmed - no, the other Yakuza 3

Joystiq reports that the latest issue of Famitsu has confirmed the existence of Yakuza 3, the latest in Sega’s line of fisticuff-throwin’ Japanese crime simulators.

As series director Toshihiro Nagoshi explained, Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan! (which was thought to be Yakuza 3) took a step off the path Yakuza 1 and 2 had paved, and therefore, wasn’t an official numbered entry in the series. Yakuza 3, then, leaps back to the future – from Kenzan’s samurais and sword-slinging to canonical Yakuza’s world of organized crime.

No release date – Japanese or otherwise – has been announced for Yakuza 3, but if we ask really nicely, we’re sure Sega will consider releasing Yakuza 3 from its native land.
