XCOM: Enemy Unknown characters "look like GI Joes"

In this new XCOM: Enemy Unknown developer diary, art director Greg Foertsch shares some of the Firaxis team's unusual vision and inspirations for the strategy-hybrid's future world.

Foertsch mentions that his intention isn't to make characters look like real soldiers so much as action figures.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a tactical combat game in the same vein as the original 1990's releases, as opposed to 2K Marin's shooter, simply titled XCOM. In development by the team behind Civilization, Enemy Unknown has drawn keen attention from the PC elite, but is on its way to consoles as well, possibly later this year.
