Xbox One update gives the storefront an overhaul and adds Cortana

Major Nelson talks us through the upcoming Xbox update.

Cortana will be a major feature of update. She'll be able to tell you what your friends are up to if you feel like having a quick stalk, and she'll make it super easy to create a party without a lot of faffing about in the menus.

If you don't have Kinect, you'll be able to use your headset to give Cortana voice commands.

The Games and App section will be tweaked to a vertical scrolling format with various ways of reordering your content so that it's easier for you to sift through. Meanwhile, the entire section has been bumped up to the top right corner of the home screen.

One of the biggest changes is the combination of the Xbox and Windows store, implemented because of confusion amongst users when it came to identifying which version of the game they'd brought. I don't know how big of an issue that is, but if you've been struggling, your suffering is over.

If you want to give it a whirl before everyone else, you can opt-in if you're a Preview member.

The update will launch for everyone this November.
