Xbox One Illumiroom projector too expensive for home use, now just for research says Penello

Xbox One's Illumiroom projector concept would see your living room plastered with imagery to heighten your immersion in a game. Now, Microsoft's Albert Penello has said that the tech is now for research purposes only, as it's too costly to bring to the home market.

If you're a bit like 'Illumi-what-now-huh?', then you can watch this showcase demo of what the projections would have looked like.

The tech was said to be housed within Xbox One's Kinect sensor as standard but now, speaking with AusGamers, Xbox One head of product planning Albert Penello has said it's unlikely to head to your home.

He explained, "I wouldn't expect you'll see that. It's really super-neat if you're in the lab and you've got Microsoft money and you could totally set up this awesome lab, but... we looked at it, but for an average customer it's, like, thousands of dollars [for the set up]."
